He's a very good boy. Don't bark, don't lick, fairly affectionate.
What do you reckon he is?

Looks like a keeper.  The head and mouth resembles a St Bernard, but the coloring and the size of the body favor a German Short Hair Pointer.  A trip to the vet for a check up and you will have a life long companion.

I hope you are asking because you want to tell your friends about the awesome new dog you adopted.

I'd have thar guy as my own in a hot second.
Give him a name, put a collar and tags on him after a vet visit and enjoy a better, happier life with a lifelong companion.

Hope it works out... I suspect it will. Kids need dogs in their life.
Mine always had multiple dogs growing up and it taught them responsability while providing fun that you couldn't buy at the toy store.

If for some reason it doesn't, please keep feeding him and don't let him run off. Get him to a local rescue .
He will make a very fine dog for another family.
Thanks for looking after him..

He may have some livestock guard blood in him. See if he likes food and shoulder scratches, and accepts your kid. If so, make room for your new Autonomous Roving Security Drone.

He gets a little upset when you stop giving the deep tissue massages on the shoulders lol

Looks like he has some St Bernard and possible Scotts American Bulldog.  ABs are commonly mixed with other breeds.  I'm not sure about Scotts but I know the Johnson ABs have a 1/8 rule and are almost always out crossed a little ways up in the family tree which can lead to some pretty interesting pups.  Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he was partially mixed with one of those.

It's a mutt OP.

But that's not important. Looks like it's happy and if you enjoy it that's all that matters.

Spots look like my coonhound mix, although he is much bigger. So may have GSP. Either way, looks like a good pup.

The jowls and snout say some mastiff breed. The pink at the nose reminds me of some pit.

Hopefully a good dog, cuz that’s a powerful dog.

Agreed. I was originally thinking mastiff, then the tail maybe LGD type breed like kangal or anatolian. I was concerned when the neighbor came down with their German shepherd but this dog didn't even  acknowledge him. Both dogs are intact males.

Teach your kid those scratches.  Show him how to be his best buddy.   Scratch where they can't for themselves and your like a wizard.

He looks like he has some PYR in him. Being upset when you stop petting is classic PYR. PYRs will also appear to ignore other dogs sometimes. They aren’t ignoring them, they are testing them.

If he sees the 5yo as yours he will make it his job to protect him. Everyone in the family needs to feed the dog or he will likely become food aggressive FOR your child. If they bond he will not like being separated. He will try to find him when he is at school, sleep as close to his bed as he can, even if it means sleeping under the window.

ETA When your son runs and it look like the dog is trying to knock him down, he isn’t. The dog is trying to be involved in the running. If the dog feels your son is going the wrong direction or too far he will try to block with his body. My daughter gets knocked around all the time, it makes the kids more alert and stronger lol

I put all of your pictures through my dog id app and this is what it shows:
28.6% Great Dane
25.5% Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog
10.9% American Foxhound
7.1% American Pit Bull Terrier
The rest % undetermined.

I have had pretty accurate results so this shoud give you at least an idea especially when it comes to health related items you may have.
Looks like a great pup. Lucky, both of you.
