I do like the idea of a leather slip down the road because I can make those. Zipper pouches I'd just have to order. View Quote That's a complicated question. Mixed emotions. Yes? But who wouldn't like a nicer presentation? Allow me to think out loud and meander. The Jack Wolf package I mentioned before. Tin tube, made in England, with all manner of extras inside. Knife made in China, and is well made, but with all the other stuff it was like they were trying too hard. And you don't carry that other stuff around, so unless you are collecting, why? Same with some Bokers I have seen, Pena, James Brand, all very nice presentation. But you don't carry that with you. Are you selling a collectible or something that will get used? I feel like the eloborate or fitted presentation is something that seems more typical of the chinese made knives. Like they are trying to hard. I think most of my customs have all been in very simple packaging. My Park Bones midtech came in a cloth and gatorskin pouch, That might have been one of the "nicer" ones. My k'roos come in simple leather slips that I set to the side with a handwritten write up sheet. I think most of my pieces come with handwritten notes for what the knife is about. I think you mentioned you would do the same. That is a nice touch. Zippered pouches are stupid. I think my Holt was in some nice packaging (haven't looked at it since I got it). CRK comes in an elaborate box set up for how simple their knives are. Then again the $1000 shiros come wrapped in a cloth inside a simple thin cardboard box. I like that minimalistic approach. As others have said, the GEC tubes and wax paper are kind of classic. Maybe something similar in your square box is fitting? Or squares of fabric (not a hank, but just cut fabric)? What about a kraft pillow box with your logo on top? I dunno. I like a nice simple touch, something personal from the maker, but I don't need fancy or elaborate. The presentation can be fun when done up nice, but it also gets set to the side immediately and the tool is where they really need to shine for me. Maybe Rob Low will throw in his two cents. He has probably had the most customs pass through his hands of all of us. Maybe he can provide perspective. On the other hand, he wears clown shoes to court. You do you.
