ETA Concealed carry is allowed and the Russian government gives engraved pistols to people as a reward. Based. View Quote Believe me, I know people who actually live there. It's bad. There are a lot of "rights" that you supposedly have in Russia that exist on paper, but the reality is much different. You need to have a permit to own a hunting rifle, and the local government official can revoke it at any time, for any reason. Ammo is very hard to get, since basically all Russian ammo is made by the government. If you know who to bribe, you can get it, but it costs. You can't dig an outhouse hole without a permit. Personal property is arbitrarily taxed at various rates depending on the locality, and the whims of whatever government official happens to be in charge at the time. Some things are completely out of reach for individuals. These are things that my missionaries have first hand experience with: Want to own an airplane? Sorry. Only government and corporations can do that. Want to own multiple vehicles? Ok, you have to pay an "excess tax" on them Want to stock up on fuel? You are an enemy of the state, and depriving your fellow citizens of prosperity! Russia is a collectivist socialist society, with an integrated welfare state and universal healthcare. These systems don't work very well, but they are a part of the central government nonetheless. Every part of your life is government directed, and all you do is looked at through the lens of "societal good" It's something that American Democrats can only dream of. That's why I like this war in Ukraine. Leftists trying to out do themselves, and both getting destroyed in the process. It's a beautiful thing! |

It’s also possible that this tank was destroyed by the crew prior to being abandoned due to a mechanical failure, terrain, or lack of fuel resupply. It did look like an actual M1A1. View Quote It is the M1A1 model pre DU upgrade. Judging by the hole made by the penetrator I'm not sure the DU armor would have stopped it. From the video of it getting hit it looks like the tank was hung out to dry without wingmen or infantry support. No tank lives long on a battlefield in those conditions. |

Overall, despite the differences in gun laws between states, Russia has more restrictive laws, and getting a handgun is next to impossible for the average person, so I've read. I read that some government workers who carry them as part of their job are allowed to keep the handgun they carried after retiring. |

It’s weird how the Russians are so damned good at Subversion, that they managed to turn All the Liberals and Half the Right wing of America, into simpering sycophants. And yet they suck so bad at this type of propaganda. It’s bizarre. They have to power to convince many scared and demoralized people, that Russia is the True Defender of Christianity (tm). View Quote The most telling thing in this article is this quote "if you were HALF A MILE behind the front line (in Iraq or Afghanistan) you could have a barbecue, a sandwich and a drink". It amazes me how many peoples only conception of war is Iraq and Afghanistan hell even Vietnam. Those conflicts weren't shit compared to this. Yes people died and were wounded but those conflicts were a joke compared to this. I remember when NATO announced they were going to train Ukrainian soldiers. Everybody was like "oh shit its all over for the Russians when they get their combined arms warfare training". My very first thought was, "Exactly how many members of any NATO military including the US military have any EXPERIENCE whatsoever attacking heavily fortified defensive lines covered by artillery, air power, drones, tanks, missiles? Oh yeh that's right ABSOLUTELY ZERO". One thing that gets on my nerves is when I see people in the West trashing the Ukrainians for not fighting the way we tell them to fight. As if anybody in the WEST has a fucking clue what they are talking about telling people who ACTUALLY fight in the war how to do it while they are sitting on their fat asses in nice warm cozy offices and homes. I remember about 6 months into the conflict watching an interview with a former American soldier who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and went to Ukraine. He didn't last long at all. He thought it was gonna be like Iraq and Afghanistan. He said once he got there he realized what it was really like and got the fuck out of dodge. A quote by an SAS guy fighting for Ukraine summed it up pretty good. He said "The worst day in Iraq or Afghanistan was better than the best day in Ukraine". Sums it up pretty good. https://www.businessinsider.com/us-forgot-how-to-fight-real-war-veteran-in-ukraine-2024-5 |

They couldn’t Buy an M1 from Saudi Arabia or Iraq? It doesn’t even make any sense. Our latest armor technology packages are a heavily guarded, highly classified secret and DoD takes that shit almost if not outright as seriously as nuke weapons technology. The composition of the armor in an Abrams has changed many, many times since 1980 and our allies don’t get what our tank crews use. Iraq was sold M1A1s through FMS that were originally made with older, obsolete armor but which are or were at the time still better than anything else in the region. I believe those tanks were M1A1s produced between 1986 and 1988 and lacked DU. DU was added to the production line starting sometime in 1988. M1A1s with DU were called HAs (Heavy Armor). Whether Iraqi tanks had the more advanced armor from the late 1980s stripped before delivery, I do not know. Egypt fabricates M1A1s from “knock down” (pre-fab) kits but the armor isn’t what goes into tanks used by the U.S. Army. Not even close. The FCS with FLIR or thermal isn’t as critical of a secret as the armor because it just isn’t that difficult to design. Expensive? Yes. Not on the level of aircraft avionics, however. I’ve worked with F-15Es and what they can do when delivering a Mk82, LGBU, or a JDAM made me feel like a caveman lol. Abrams hulls and turrets begin life as a hull structure or turret structure as the basis of each, with appropriate armor packages installed and sealed from view by the welded outer armor plate that forms the shape of the tank. In some places, the thickness of the armor is measured in feet and in others, not so much. As tanks are sent back for rebuild, old armor arrays can be cut out and the turrets and hulls stripped to the basic structures, re-machined back into spec and rebuilt back up with the latest armor packages. The Abrams crew (note that I didn’t say the entire tank) is well protected against everything but top attack, and research is being feverishly conducted now to find a practical way to defeat munitions delivered from above. Some of the info in the newspapers that FMC for example was pushing out IRT development of advanced M2/M3 Bradley IFV armor in the early 1980s was really out there. It must have been adopted because I can’t find jack or shit about it now. I assume the Abrams utilized something similar in concept and I can only speculate that it’s far beyond anything the Soviets developed when fused silica was incorporated into their T-64 and T-72 MBTs to defeat HEAT munitions. There’s a reason why the Russians invested in and use ERA and we largely don’t (and yes I’m aware of the TUSK kit). We developed ERA as a stop gap and moved on. The Russians chose it as a cheaper alternative to advanced composite armor arrays used by western nations. |

I wouldn’t be so quick to be careless with our technology. They can always cooperate with other nations with shared interests like China to develop countermeasures to make our weapons less effective. We don’t need that. I believe in giving lethal aid to the Ukrainians, but let’s not give away the farm while doing so. |
