I got invited to a bass tournament a month from now and I’ve got a $100 Amazon gift card to spend!

I’ve got a small amount of gear for bass and need to expand.

I know there are some kits out there with a bunch of different shit in them and was wondering if the bass fishermen here could recommend one of those kits to me!

We’re not expecting a win in this charity tournament, but we are expecting a good time!

I’m definitely not an expert, but I’ve got a few fish in my life!

Thanks!

From what I've learned from the Walleye tour, $100 should buy you a shit ton (literally) of sinkers and weights to stuff in your fish.
And may I be the first to already congratulate you on your first tournament win.

Ned rig
- Zman TRD PB&J

Texas rig
- Rubber worms
- Lizard

Carolina rig
- Rubber worms
- Lizard

A top water like a whopper plopper

Chartreuse spinner
- willow blade
- Colorado blade

All you need. I’ve caught about 30 bass this year, all on a Ned rig. Couple on the lizard. Not really hitting the spinner and top water yet.

Fishing a medium rod, flouro 10# on the Ned rig. Medium Heavy, 12# flouro for the others.

You can catch all the bass you want with a gamakatsu 3/0 ewg hook and some 5” senkos whatever color you want. No kit required. If you must have a variety of colors get June bug, watermelon with red flake and green/pearl laminate. Believe me I’ve got a crapload of all sorts of bass lures that over complicate things you cannot go wrong with senkos.

A lot of the above
What are these kits you are speaking of?
I assume this is in Idaho?  I have never fished there
I would add to the above some medium depth crank baits. Match the hatch for color
For bass I mostly use Ned’s, cranks, spinners, jigs (pb&j color seem to work well for most occsions) with a chunk tail, and heden spooks for top water
A lot of people swear by wacky rigs and I have Never had much luck with them
Remember to just keep pounding an area.  If you are in a good spot you need to keep pissing them, off till they bite

Plastic worms, sinkers, and worm hooks.
A couple of top water, and a couple of divers.
That will put you past $100 if you buy several colors of each. Academy has Rapala, buy one get one with free shipping.

Fishing Brownlee Reservoir. It’s a reservoir on the Snake River. Mainly smallmouth but some largemouth. I saw Amazon has bass kits that come with a random assortment of stuff like plastics, jigs, crankbaits, etc.

I have small quantities of the above, but it’s been some time since I’ve fished for bass and wanted to see what the experts here recommended.

Bass lures catch more fishermen than fish. Stick to the basics and you’ll be ok. In my area I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll catch something fishing a plastic on the bottom.  Lots of pressure where I fish, so I try to fish something subtle this time of year.

Last fall I was fishing a big cove on the lake in my kayak. There were 3 boats spread out casting to the shore. I was watching bass bust the water about 200-300 yds behind these guys, in the middle of the cove, closer to deeper water. Started throwing a spinner bait and caught 3-4 decent sized bass. I was watching those guys the entire time, they never turned around, never caught a fish either. I always keep a spinner bait rigged up and if something busts the water near me, I’ll throw it out and usually catch it. Otherwise, I’m fishing deeper with plastics or a crankbait.

I guess I should’ve asked first about what you need
My assumption was just baits
Do you need rod, reel, tackle box and tackle?
If you need rod and reel and on a budget, I like ugly sticks for budget rods. Don’t get a cheap bait caster. I would go open bail.  A cheap open bail May give you issues. A good rod and reel alone is around $100
$100 will be a challenge for everything and tackle
I wouldn’t buy one of those cheap fishing lure kits. They look like junk.
I wish you were closer and I would hook you up. I have so many rod, reels, tackle, etc
Good luck on your trip. I love fishing smallies

I didn’t watch this video and lots of info on the interweb

Honestly you need 3 things....

Texas rigs with some senko's in Watermelon,  Red Flake or June Bug

Square bill crank bait

Ned Rig in Green Pumpkin.

Learn the actions for those and your golden year round.

If on a boat in deep water, may need white fluke or a long bill crank.

The chatter bait work or they don't.  When they work they hit hard...

For largemouth bass in Fla, Culprit worms in black shad color always worked the best for me I preferred the 10 in. worms with a 2.0 offset hook Texas rigged.

Get your self one of those old school electric phone crank boxes and shock them..it stuns them and you can pick the winning fish.

Agree with soft plastics, I use three base colors. A semi transparent worm for clear water, Green Pumpkin or watermelon red for moderate visibility and junebug for cloudy water

Buy some senko style (yum work ok) worms and hooks and weight for texas rigging.  Buy a couple of wacky hooks with weed guards and some weight to put in one end. This gives you a lot of flexibility with just a little equipment.

Spinner bait is a good all purpose lure, as well as lipless crankbait.

A couple of flukes and heavier weight hooks in white and watermelon red

square bill crankbait in  shallow water, a lipless crankbait.

I still have good luck with an old school hula popper.

Out Here frogs are limited in use.

Whopper ploppers work ok but seem to be better for Carp jumping out of the water.

Rooster tails work great for panfish to smallies.

I'm a big bait big fish  non tournament guy.
I catch my own bait mostly.

They won't ship this to Idaho or I'd recommend it.
