6 weeks nonweightbearing followed 4-6 weeks in a walking boot.
Buy a knee scooter and a shower bag
Eta and dont get surgery within 3 months of an injection

Which bone?   One could be 8 weeks, another could be many months.

Triple Arthrodesis sound right?

Pan Talar fusion?

Long recovery.  Plan on being Non weight bearing for a while.

Dreading the day mine has to happen. Injured myself at 17 and left with arthrosis of the subtalor joint and doc said hopefully I'm lucky and the pain never gets too bad but I might need a fusion one day.

Tldr tag for interest.

Excellent advice.  I’ve had multiple surgeries on both ankles/tibias with plates and grafts the past 3 years having similar recovery times.

Not ashamed to admit I had knee scooters inside and outside the house plus walkers upstairs and downstairs.  Made it a lot easier on my opposite foot, my arms and my wife.  Get one of those wedge pillows for raising your feet.

If it's those bones.   Could be done with plates or some other fixation.

Definitely on the 12+ week non weight bearing end of things, then protected (Cam Walker) weight bearing once the healing is good enough.

Knee scooters are good.

Follow all post op instructions!

Ugh.  TalarNavicular surgery is common, but yikes.  I haven't had it, but the one I'm very familiar with first surgery failed (1 screw backed out, 2 failed) and it took another try.  4 years before all was done, and the foots still not "right".  I'm not sure I'd go for the pegleg route though even knowing what I know.

Buy the knee scooter - you can get one off Amazon cheaper than you'll wind up with rent from a Home Medical place.  Buy the nice cover for it too.

Not exactly your problem, but I have had 5 ankle/foot surgeries. (Foot crushed.) fused ALL the things, tendon repair, etc.

The LEAST time I spent in a boot or cast was 3 weeks. (Screw removal)  The first time was a series of non and weight bearing fixtures and was almost 4 months.

Multiple foot surgeries here too.   I'd add that you should consider getting a shower chair.  It's better than a 5 gal orange bucket.

You should also consider a pair of forearm crutches for the times you can't use a knee scooter.  They're a bit more stable then the underarm ones.

Listen to what others have said and don't fuck up your recovery.   If you smoke cigarettes, plan on quitting before surgery.  Quitting smoking is far easier than dealing with a nonunion.

Not that I'm not already fucked by the prednisone. Miracle drug, until the inevitable side effects hit you.

Is a replacement not an option for you?

ETA: Not a prosthetic, but a joint replacement.

I’ve got 15 screws in my talus bones already. Something like this may be in my future as an old man.

Maybe Lapidus fusion or Lis Franc repair (neither has as much recovery as some of the other surgeries.   Still NWB for a while).
