Contrary to popular "knowledge" amongst folks who aren't old enough to have lived it, "Video Killed the Radio Star" was not the first music video on television.

Share your favorite music videos from before August 1, 1981.  Cable (yes, some of my neighbors had it back then) or over-the-air network broadcasts are all welcomed.  Concert videos from the King Buscuit Power Hour, although extremely worthy of respect, belong in another thread. .

I'll start with Steve Martin's video of Marty Robbins' "El Paso" from the NBC broadcast of "Comedy Is Not Pretty" - Valentine's Day 1980.  Njoy.

The only music video I can remember from pre Mtv days  J. Geils band Love Stinks. I saw it played during some daytime talk show at my Grandmas house one summer day. She had cable TV. I am guessing this was right around the time when they were building a video library for the launch of Mtv

All of the 80’s was pre MTV for me. The town I grew up in wouldn’t allow it on their cable offerings. I did have Night Tracks and Night Flight on TBS and USA respectively. My first time having MTV was in 1994 although I did see part of Headbangers Ball once at my friend’s house who had a satellite.

We didn’t get MTV in Canada. Our national music station, MuchMusic, wasn’t launched until 1984, so we had almost nowhere to see music videos. But the first movie channel in Canada which came in 1983 occasionally played a video between movies. This is the only one I remember them playing.

Bowie also did a bunch of them in the 70s, I think.

I recall on weekends there was an America's Top 40 TV show featuring the top songs of the week.  This was pre-MTV by a couple of years.  Occasionally there were videos to accompany songs.
