Growing up, I loved shooting guns and fireworks and cannons. The bigger and louder the better.

I've never outgrown it. A part of shooting fun is the big badda boom.

Would you go to a silent fireworks display?

Suppressors have their place for practical work, of course.

But shooting for enjoyment, even competitions/matches, sighting in for hunting, etc, a suppressor takes a lot of the fun away, for me.

I was shooting machineguns at Knob Creek.

RPD......hell yeah
RPK.....oh baby
Galil AR shorty.....By George I'm sporting a chubby.

MP5SD......Well that was under whelming. May as well shoot the kid's airsoft version.

I guess I should buy a couple for...reasons, especially since wait times are so short. But, I doubt I'd use them much.

As exciting as bacon without the smell.

Agree to disagree. Replace the thrill of the boom with the sound of the meat slap () the suppressor allows you to hear when you shoot an animal.

Suppressors should be over the counter items, sold in blister pacs on an end cap.

Sounds like I have nothing to add, you couldn’t hear it anyway.

Suppressed is the way.

It's definitely weird.

I shoot a lot and definitely enjoy it more suppressed.

I’m not a big noise guy.  When I rode Harleys I kept my exhaust stock.  Also hate fireworks.  I wish everyone used suppressors so ranges would be quieter.

Plus supressors can catch on fire.  I can't even remember a time a nonsupressed firearm caught on fire.

If OP's looking for theater suppressors are where it's at.

That falls under practical use. The primary focus is the taking of the critter, not the shooting of the gun.

I have never seen a can catch on fire but I have seen wooden handguards in machine guns smoke and start to burn up.

If you're just a range shooter, I can see why it would hold little luster.

For someone that actually uses or "plans to use" their gun in hunting or defense it is a game changer.

Oh and ETA.

Don't get me wrong, I love a loud weapon and have some legit units for making noise, but I also really enjoy a super quiet weapon.   Suppressors in the right context are great.  But a suppressor on a 10.3" AR is pointless so just let that noise shine!

There's no reason not to have a can, in a free world.  I've shot enough suppressed guns to know how useful they are.  Take the muffler off your car and see how loud it is.

I don't own one because I won't pay the fucking cheese tax and 10 years in the Federal Pound my Ass prison doesn't sound good either.

Put a supressor cover that isn't full auto rated on an ar15 and report back.

Absolutely right beside machineguns, grenades, C4, blasting caps, cocaine, LSD.

My hearing loss came from music and machine shop. Not so much chemical explosions.

It's that low grade, long term degradation of hearing is a lot sneakier and just as bad as the booms

I rode straight pipes.
Firebird had thrush to be legal.

Ironically, I love the quiet. I talk quietly unless I need to be heard over other noise. Make effort to be quiet in public places like campgrounds or beach. No radio etc.

I think he is morphing into rogueboss.

I was inside a vehicle when 5.56 was discharged a few feet from my head. I will be paying for that for the rest of my life. We got supressors shortly after that, and man do I wish we had them before….

Shooting a lot and being around tens of thousands of round being fired annually, I cannot stand unsupressed rifles anymore.

I've long maintained that suppressors aren't dumb but that they are one of the most over-rated firearm accessories there is and serve primarily as a status symbol for most owners.

Yes, I own suppressors.
