My friend, Don Sutherin died today at 85 years old. He was a 1958 graduate of The Ohio State University where he was a defensive back and place kicker. Suds kicked the game winning field goal in the 1958 Rose Bowl.
Don had a professional football career from 1959 to 2002. He played in the NFL for the New York Giants and the Pittsburg Steelers, but made his career in The Great White North, as a player and then a coach. He was a member of a Grey Cup Championship team 7 times. He was a member of the CFLHOF class of 1992.
Most of all, he was my friend, and decades long member of my hunting group. He was an avid sportsman and made his last Whitetail deer hunt with us in 2019 at the age of 83. I had the privilege of field dressing his last buck for him.
