My daughter accepted a full scholarship to Southern Utah. She will be 18 when she moves. And has secured student housing off-campus but close.

From what I am seeing online she will be able to open carry “unloaded”. How is that defined exactly?

She could also obtain a provisional CCW at age 18 as well? Where’s a good place to go for that in the area of the school and what does they typically run?

Not covered by a jacket or cover garment, unloaded means magazine inserted empty chamber.

As far as I know Utah requires you to be 21 for a CCW

Go T-Birds….that’s where my son goes.

ETA: @nicodemus7

FYI no open carry on campus

Unloaded means an empty chamber on a semi but can have a loaded magazine.

Needs a CCW to carry on school premises.

Can get a CCW permit at 18.

Can carry fully loaded handguns in vehicles at 18 without a permit.

It looks like you can carry on a public college campus with the provisional CCW permit. Can't carry in elementary, middle or high school campuses.

When she's 21, she can apply to convert the provisional to a full CCW.

Thank you guys this confirms what I’ve been reading online.

I’ll look into the provisional CCW as she won’t have a vehicle, I’m getting her an E-bike for her graduation present. Looks like she will need that if she wants to carry in a backpack while riding around.
