So I purchased a Saint Victor .308 rifle a few months ago and have been having accuracy and feeding issues. I've put about 300 rounds through it now from many different manufacturers as well as reloaded ammo. I've tried many different bullet weights from both factory and reloads, as well as different powder charges, etc.. The best group I can put on paper is about 2 1/2 inches at 100yds. I'm also having multiple stove pipes and casings that will completely flip around in the action and not eject. If I change out the gas screws, or use the adjustable one, I get other types of misfeeds.
I tried using a different scope and mount to address the accuracy issue, but it was the same. My son bought the same rifle and his is a tack driver. I sent the rifle back to Springfield on December 1st. I finally got it back from them on Jan 7th with a work order that said that there was nothing wrong with it. They even sent a target with it with about a 1 1/2" group on it that they said was 168 gr at 100yds. I took it out to shoot. Same issues. I allowed other shooters to try...same result. Anybody experience anything like this? I'm a very experienced shooter. Needless to say, I'm a little frustrated. Any ideas? |

I think what you are experiencing accuracy wise is normal. I've has people report sub MOA to 2 MOA depending upon the rifle. I've not encountered the reliability issues.

I only have about 200 rounds of Hirtenberger ball through mine, but without issue. it shoots about 4 MOA with the ammo. I haven't yet taken the time to try it with decent commercial ammo.

I had similar feed issues. Found an extra spring in the extractor. At first I thought it fell out of the bolt ASSY after dropping the pin and bolt out and disassembled the bolt and saw an extra spring there. Thought it was weird but I had A DPMS at one time that had twin springs for the extractor. TT the smith and he said based on what I was experiencing was he had heard many manufacturers were double springing the extractor when they don't need to causing feed issues, stove pipe etc. I took it out the the range a day later to dial in the gas with a suppressor and with just the single spring and no ejection issues or feed issues.

I have a saint victor 308 that I just purchased and have taken it out twice. with iron sights and 25 and 50 yards im getting 5" groups with m80 ball ammo. I figured i was having a bad day so I fitted a scope and took it out the following day and am getting the same group sizing even with a scope. I just emailed springfield armory in hopes of being able to return it for warranty or exchange for a new one.
On the second outting i brought my m1a along. I shot the saint at 25 and 50 yards with 5 inch grouping. I then shot my m1a with iron sights at 50 yards and effortlessly printed a 1.5" group. With quality scoped bolt guns I can shoot sub moa. This is certainly a rifle issue although I dont see anything obvious wrong with it. hopefully springfield makes it right. I love my m1a but completely dissapointed in this ar10 |

I tried a different bolt in mine a week ago. Extraction was a little better, but I'm still having major cycling issues no matter what gas screw I have in or what setting it's on. Groups are still 5-6" no matter what ammo I feed it.

Springfield has an accuracy standard of 2.5 for this rifle or so they told me. If they sent it back to you saying there is nothing wrong with it I would suggest you either sell the rifle or put on another barrel. But you are still having function issues. I know how frustrating this must be for you and you may spend alot of time and money trying to sort it out. Might be best to move on to another platform.
I have this rifle, mine runs fine but I may not be satisfied with the accuracy, still working on that one and I don't have that many rounds thru it. If it helps Ballistic Advantage makes a quality barrel for a reasonable price. Good luck |

Well, I put in a Ballistic advantage barrel and now I can shoot 1" and sometimes, sub 1" groups with this gun. No more reliability issues either.

I've had my 308 Saint for about a year and a half and have the exact same issues. Feed, eject, stove pipe, rounds not even making it out of the receiver. Just got back from the range today. Best group was 5" at 50 yards using hand loaded and premium factory ammo. Bullet weights from 110 to 168 grain. Glad to hear a Ballistic Advantage barrel solved your issues. I have a 223 wylde and a 308 BA build and those are the most accurate semi auto rifles I own. Just curious what barrel you went with? I assume a 16" but what countour / series?

Thanks for the reply. I just got back from another frustrating day at the range with the saint. Only got 5 rounds through it before it just stopped firing. I have had a problem off and on with light primer strikes, but it just completely gave up the ghost today. I am right at the point of saying F Springfield and stick to building my own. I was seriously considering going the BA barrel route, but I am pretty disgusted right now.

Well, I flip flopped again. Lol. Ordered a 14.5" BA barrel, gas block, gas tube and BCG. I am going to make this POS a shooter one way or another. I'll be willing to bet that even with the shorter barrel, it will easy out shoot it in it's current configuration.

That did the trick. 2 trips to the range now with the BA barrel and FINALLY it is a shooter. MOA all day. If you are having the same issues with your Saint that I had, for less than $200 more, you can make it better than you imagined.

Which BA 308 barrel did you get? Looking at maybe upgrading mine.

I can't even remember now because I don't have the gun anymore. It was a 16" one, though. Nothing fancy. $150 barrel.
