Geissele Hunting Rifle.

Ever since G announced 6ARC entry, I've been anxiously awaiting Bill's Anodized rendition of a hunting rifle.

Having now used a Super Duty exclusively through two Maine winter trap lines /bait spots I'm deeply convinced the Geissele Nano-coating has advantages in the sub-zero Temps other finishes do not. This rifle never fails to go into battery, lock back, or function after being packed with falling snow.

Cleans easy.

A 20", slick slide upper maybe? Special proprietary varmint/match SSP trigger?

16" model with BRP lightweight handguard geared towards Deer hunters.

I mean Geissele is PENN proud, right? Call it the Geissele Longhunter or something. Penn has some of the richest hunting history in this country.

With the 6mm ARC round becoming more popular by the day, I think you have a really cool concept. Although we do not have any current plans to develop one, this thread could really drive some inspiration for hunters. I'd love to hear more perspectives and watch this thread grow.

Good 20” medium-profile barrel (needs to be accurate but maybe not mil sniper expensive) with muzzle brake (to aid in spotting your own shot), free float handguard (bring back the ALG for this) with short pic rail at bottom front (for bipod) and arca rail section bottom middle (for tripod), fixed stock (maybe Magpul PRS lite), the more vertical G pistol grip, QD sockets for patrol carry (so you can be hands free in rough terrain), decent duty weight trigger, include a scope mount and ALG sling swivels the box, finish the whole thing in OD green.

Love where your going with this and I'm going to pick a couple of your ideas apart and develop on a couple.

Barrel/muzzle/handguard

So if we are varmint/Predator oriented, stationary, quiet hunting is key for me. I'd say a Hbar profile, 20" with a Geissle flash hider. NV is completely blinded by  break, and I try to keep the fireballs going off in night, middle of a field somewhere to a minimum.

Your spot on with the rail. Tripod adapter or Acra rail on bottom.

B5Magpul PRS stock makes sence, but they inspire so much love/hate with consumers. Neither slings very well either, which also brings me to two big issues I've faced over the past 15 years hunting extensively with ARs.

QD noise. Dammit if every QD setup doesn't squeak or rattle after a hike or two.

Clambering a round.

I know, carry loaded. But with kids climbing tree-stands all year, I like being able to chamber quietly when I want to chamber, even if that happens to be in the bush.

Side chargers have historically been made my B-Grade budget oriented companies with very few, very expensive alternatives.

I've used my thumb to press the BCG into action before as well, but you will always get a loud "Clack" when the round goes into battery.

Something that could start in the hunting world that could bleed into the tactical community (thinking 300BLK PDW) would be someway to quietly, or much quieter at least, be able to chamber a round. A byproduct of this potentially could be quiety cycling action as well.

Slick side if a side charger was avoidable.

I'd agrue for a even lighter SSP style trigger for varmint/match. If it had Geissele reliability and able to get down under 2lbs it would be a hit. Sell it exclusively with the rifle for a year then make it individually available. Same idea as the SD and X triggers.

Agree with vertical pistol grip. Scope mount and ALG slings are an awesome idea as well.

I like a brake so I can see my own hits (or misses) more easily. I don’t anticipate hunting with NVGs and most others won’t either, except possibly  those pigs in Texas. I like a medium barrel because I have to carry it, and barrel heating isn’t a big issue if you only plan on firing one shot.

The Magpul PRS lite is a stock I haven’t actually used yet, but I like the idea of target features with less weight for hunting.

I carry the rifle on a patrol sling with a round chambered, so a cool idea, for a hunting rifle might be a “hunter safety” that takes just a bit more force to move than a regular safety. Maybe even a right side only hunter safety, since the left side contacts the body when patrol slung and is where accidental movement is most likely to occur due to contact with the body or worn gear.

I don’t think the trigger on a rifle that I’ll carry loaded on irregular terrain and sometimes scrambling needs to be below 4lbs.

The upper could ditch both the forward assist and the brass deflector. Not a huge issue, but would save a fraction of weight, smooth out the profile and offer a differentiated feature set to separate the “hunter” from other models.

Underneath the forward pic rail for bipods, you could have a threaded hole for a traditional sling stud for guys who want a Harris bipod.

I can completely understand your different barrel needs. I do alot of NV coyote hunting here in ME, and a flash hider or suppressor are borderline mandatory, but as you stated, for most folks that's not a concern.

You are on a role with the handguard. I love the idea of simple swivel stud threads. Simple things like that are appreciated in the field.

The right side safety is also a cool idea. I carry access the back, so as you mentioned, offers a chance for the selector to be moved. A right side only, or at least an ambi that can be used on either side and flush on the other is something I would want to try out myself.

Is that the PRS lite stock?

I think that’s PRS gen 3.

It seems Geissele ARCA rails, scope mounts, and 6mm ARC magazines are staple in more serious predator hunters at the moment.

So what about an sub 7lbs 14.5" - 16" whitetail "GHR"?
