on a one-eared young female. In spite of several errors I finally managed to connect at 207 yards.

That first shot was a mistake, shoulda' waited, and in hindsight I wish I'd swung on the right one that was closer to the woods. They were on top of me fast and I was fumbling a bit with the tripod head, worried about hitting a cow in the background. First kill with the Howa, which has the same Hogue grip as my normal AR, and, oh yea, gotta' work the bolt on this one.  D'OH!

Im guessing the second shot was high? I kept expecting her to keel over shortly after the second shot. That looked spot on.

Must have been. Didn't examine her closely before hauling it off this morning. Gun is sighted 1" high at a 100 and I'm guessing she was about that or less on the second.

Congratulations on the recovery shot.  What caliber and bullet are you shooting?  The second shot miss which apparently went just over the coyote's back appeared to have a ricochet or maybe someone else was shooting as well?

Just me shooting; 6.5 Grendel, 90gr Varmagedon @ 2670fps.

It's a Howa mini-action, which has shot very well so far. Waiting on all the parts to arrive to put another together in 22-250.

Just keep in mind thermals sit higher off bore than a glass scope. I also go 1" at 100 for my glass scopes but I actually go .25 or at max .5" off bore for thermals because they sit around an extra 1" off bore. Nice recovery shot.

You got one, that's what counts. You can work on the what ifs later. Good looking coyote.
