What's a good starting load for accuracy for my bolt gun in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have 6.5 Staball and Varget powder to start with.

If accuracy is a goal or priority, you need to develop a load for your rifle. One rifle can shoot a load phenomenally well while another rifle may not.
There’s also the issue of pressure. Someone may have a load that works fine in their gun, but may show pressure signs or worse in yours. |

What bullet are you planning on using?
Varget is too fast burning. You want something along the speed of 4350 or 4831. |

Thanks Not many people use Varget and some use Staball but what works for them won’t necessarily work for you. That is why I gave you the data from the Hodgdon site. Use it and work up a load. |

over the course of multiple barrels, mine have liked
Lapua Brass CCI 450 H4350 39.5-40.2 (2700 fps) 140 ELD-M .035 jump All have been MPA 1:8 26in |

When Hornady used H4350 in their factory loads for 140 ELDMs, it was 41.5 grains.
I've never had a barrel that didn't like 41.x with 140s. |

Yeah if he was using H4350 that's an easy button as most find a good load between 40.5-42grns area and as mentioned the 41.5grns of H4350 and the 140 AMAX was the original loading.

In the Sierra manual, the Accuracy load for 140gr class bullets is Varget.

You will be giving up velocity using Varget with the Creedmoor. So if you want slower and accurate you could find a load with Varget but most people want to use the cartridge to get the most out of it. |

I know this has probably been ask before, but does it really matter if you use cases with small or large primer pockets. I am not new to reloading, just new to the 6.5. Just know they have cases with small and large primer pocket's.

I have used large rifle Creedmoor brass since early 2008 and never and issue getting low SD and ES numbers or accurate loads. The small primers leave more brass at the base if running real hot loads but you will get plenty of uses from large rifle brass if not run at the ragged edge.

Ok, I do not plan on runnig hot . I reload for my AR .308 and only run mid range on the reloads. I do not like running hot loads. Saves on barrel and equipment as well.

Yep I have a box of Hornady on its 6th firing and pockets are still tight. 41.5g h4350 with a 140g eld so not hot nor a light load by any means. Don't see why I won't get at least 10 loads out of them. I will say my Lapua SR is almost too tight with Rem 7 1/2s, even after 5 firings. |
