Barrel should only extend another inch or inch and a half past the end of the handguard, so...should be nice

And, I filed for a stamp from the ATF, so...maybe in a couple months, it'll be complete-complete? Until then I can use it as the pistol I originally envisioned and see how it does.

Sadly, mocking up the stock, it does not sit on the right side cleanly...it interferes with the bolt handle I was hoping the stock would fold to the right cleanly, like a Sig Cross. I mocked up with the stock from my Cross incidentally, and that interferes too...the stock would need to be mounted up super high on a knuckle of some kind, and even then - the rear of the bolt actually extends further than the rear pic rail a little...so any knuckle would need to be flush with the rear of the pic rail at best. But, given that the bolt handle is what it is...a left-side folding stock is about the best I could expect.

That is a nice looking set up Ed. I really like that minimalist stock. Would a left sided folding stock that bad?

Nah left folding is fine - it's just, you already have the bolt handle coming out on the right side...so having a stock that folds to the right over the bolt handle isn't effectively making the gun wider when it's folded up. Having the stock fold to the left, does make it wider when storing it...not a huge amount to be sure, but still. Sig Cross', for example, fold to the right, and it's a much slicker package than it is if you reverse the folding mechanism and have it fold to the left. Downside, of course, is you can't manipulate the bolt when the stock is folded...if that matters to you.

Now on to phase two - figuring out the barrel...probably going to need to wait until next year though

Now to order another Xeno brake for it, and figure out what pistol/SBR chassis to buy for it...so far choices are either a Black Collar Pork Sword, or a JTac Screech Owl...I'm not particularly sold on either. Most of the other chassis I looked at used AR buffer tube-style stocks which I don't want; they're too fat/thick...I'm looking for something thinner than that. Best option would be something like a Sig Cross stock on a pic adapter...I don't know if anyone makes a stock like that. Assuming I decide I like this thing enough to SBR it that is...

Project "this is a dumb idea" completed!

Broken down a bit:

Got the barrel in today, managed to get it on at about 75ft/lb - ARC says to aim for 100ft/lb but I just don't have a barrel wrench that'll keep a hold of it for that, and I don't think I have a bench heavy enough to allow that either way I couldn't get it to not spin no matter what I tried...it left some marks on the barrel but whatever - I'll probably be rattlecanning it at some point anyway. Worst case there's a local guy I can use to torque it to 100, but I really don't think that'll be super necessary.

I got the ATF stamp back about a month before I got the barrel in

Preferred Barrel 9" 1/7" 300blk with Sig taper...it's a little heavier than I thought it would be; I probably should have gotten it fluted but oh well. It's for sure stout enough to hold a can on it without changing POI, that's for sure..

Headspace checks out; won't close on a no-go, but swallows a go just fine.

Hopefully this weekend I can get it out and see if it's not a total waste of time

Edit - what I need now though is to figure out what optic for it...I'm probably going to sight it in with subs at 100, it'll be used at 50/100 for sure, I'd guess max range would be 200 - but I'd like to be able to see and hit golf balls at that distance, you know? The scope that's on it (a 10x fixed old Tasco Super Sniper) is there as a placeholder..I'm trying to decide if I should get a 1-6 or a 1-10 or something like that and be happy with it, or start with a 3-9 and maybe consider a 3-18, something like that...

Got it to the range this morning before it got too sticky and yucky out:

This is rounds 61-65; Sig 220gr OTM 300blk:

Yeah yeah, only 50 yards...I have a better optic on order, so this was just about a %100 purely "does it function the way it should" test run at the range. When I get the better optic in, I'll be moving it and zeroing it with subsonic at 100 (and I guess probably creating a zero with 110gr supers at 100 as well..may as well get dope on both)

For a frame of reference here's the whole target...going counter-clockwise from the top left; 10 rounds (41-50), 10 rounds (51-60), 5 rounds (the good group; 61-65), 5 rounds (66-70), then another 10 at the center last, rounds 71-80.

N-NW wind gusting to 20 or so, I was getting tired, etc...I'm fully aware of how lucky that first 5 round group was; that was why I decided to stop at 5 shots and move on to the next diamond

Now to clean

New Remington 700 action trued and blue printed, old Remington 300 Blk barrel I’ve had for years, cut to 9”. The 2.5x10 NXS is getting swapped out for an ATACR 1-8, but I’ll probably drop it in another 20 MOA mount. I’ve got another Q Half Nelson waiting approval so this one can go back to my Sig TACOPS.

Haven’t checked for accuracy yet, but my daughter was making consistent hits on the 200 yard plate with my 220 gr. SMK handloads. I was able to get consistent hits out to 400 yards with my 125 gr. SMK “plinking” load.

@Fullthrottle303

Thanks.  It’s a Sharps Heatseeker chassis with a grey birch mfg stock.

How do you like the stock? Someone on here mentioned that they didn't think it locked up as good as there MCX so they weren't going to use it. Did you cut the forearm, and would the suppressor have fit inside the forearm? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the kind words. I love the stock.  The hinge assembly could be beefier, but it’s solid.  I had the firearm cut. A can would not fit inside.

looking good

no barrel nut

does mostek make prefits for the ruger

that rail chop looks like it could be interesting , are you going to do a straight chop and leave an mlock slot open or cut and section in a piece for the front

nicer weather has let me get out with my shorty 308 and work on some loads lately

Proverbial dumb question:
I am somewhat surprised at the number of Ruger's that are shown. I was expecting to see at least several Savage Arms 110 PCS that were Form 1'd into SBR's. Given the ease that a barrel with a different chamber/caliber could be placed on it, I thought that would be a natural for this. ¿Is this just a sample anomaly or is there a technical reason?

This has me thinking of pinning a GP7 on to avoid the SBR dance.
Then again, a 7.5" bolt gun with a flash hider has it's attraction too....
