LMT HARD CHROMED BOLT CARRIER

Actually, I'm using the JP Stainless "Tactical" bolt carrier in my 6.8 upper.   It's running 100%.

Optics are switched between a 4.5-14X Leupold M1 for load development, and a TA11 and Aimpoint for general purpose use.

Just loaded about 60 rounds with the 110 VMAX and VV-N135 for plinking.  Can't wait to get out and shoot them this week.

Are we witnessing the evolution of the AR15/M16, or is this just another "arrow in the quiver" of options for the AR15/M16?

The MRP and HK uppers are a larger change to the AR15/M16 design.  We've had wildcat AR uppers for years.  The difference is - this one might catch on.

Dose that mean we will always get the marking when ordering a #58-M? cause some website said it is designed for  .223 Armalite & Rock River Carbines...

Is the Barret Front flip up sight available for sale seperately?

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a 6.8 mm spc upper. How available are magazines? Is there any 5 round magazines available (for hunting).

Thanks

salaciouscrumb,

Read the FAQ, dude.

You should be able to make a 5-round limited magazine by slightly modifying a 10-round .223 magazine.

Alternatively, a 5-round .223 magazine will probably hold about 3 6.8 rounds, but I haven't tried it.

The PRI site is showing 10 round mags. http://www.pri-mounts.com/detailpages/05-6807.htm
They also show 5 round mags. High caps are listed but are LEO. According to an article in the new SOF Hornady and Federal will be making ammo and Wolf and Winchester are cosidering it.
Has anyone used a Model 1 upper?? If so how about some information as to accuracy and quality.

To load 6.8SPC on a Dillon XL 650, you need the following things specific to 6.8:

1. dies: get them from Hornady or Redding as special order,
2. shell plate: use the .40SW or 10mm shell plate it works well,
3. powder dies insert: Dillon can make you one custom for around $30.

With the arrival of item #3, I can now load progressively on the XL650!

I do have to deprime and swage the crimped primer pockets separately, the first time however.

Will 6.8mm SPC fit in 20 Round USGI Mags

Read the FAQ.

6.8SPC rounds do not work well in USGI M16 magazines.   You can load about 5 before things start malfunctioning.

The curvature of the 30's is not what makes them fail.

P.R.i. has magazines in stock. I just got 2 10 rounders, all welded construction, steel follower,
excellent quality.

I also converted a 30 round steel SA80/M16 magazine that functions perfectly, with 14 rounds
however. I had to grind a sliver out of the bump, and I am doing some testing with the spring
pressure as that is what seems to cause the rounds to start to "jam" in the box and cause the
mouth of the box to "puff out" and won't allow the magazine to be inserted into the weapon.

I have been shooting some handloads using .30 REM brass necked down and formed into the
6.8x43; Hodgdon 335, 110 grain Sierra bullets. Just testing different loads for fire forming the
brass and functioning of the weapon, no real group testing, but the results have been quite
favorable.

Thanks Zak for your assistance in suggesting various burn rates of powders for the cartridge!

All of my testing thus far has been with the Model 1 16" upper.

With the 10 rounders I also (finally) aquired a small supply of 6.8mm Remington SPC ammo,
so I may be able to do some group testing with the factory ammo.

Art,

If you get some good loads worked up with H335, shoot me an email with the details.  Once I get some time - looks like mid/late-July - I'm going to track down some N133 and N530.  In the meantime I can deal with slow but accurate N135 loads.

HokieXD40,  Not to take the "food" out of any of the guys building quality 6.8 magazines, but
20 round Triple K 7.62x39 cheeepo magazines fit and function perfectly with no alterations.

I had 3 of the mags thrown back in a box from years and years ago and while looking for some
parts pulled them out and kinda' looked them over. The main reason they work so well is the
design of the box, IE: no ribs in the "body" where the brass case of the ammo resides, only 1
rib near the area the "bullet" resides in. This leaves more room in the box. Look at a GI mag
and there are several ribs and those cause the box to be smaller, and thus the cartridge starts
to "jam" after loading only a few rounds. Even with the follower having a slice milled out as I have
done with 1 SA80/m16 steel magazine. I was beside myself as the magazines dont function
worth a damn with the intended 7.62x39 cartridge.

Zak, you were right again as you made mention of the extra area in the box in a previous post.

glck32, several outfits have 6.8mm Remington SPC ammo cataloged, Midway USA, Graf & sons,
Natchez, etc but noone has any yet, no brass either as cataloged also by the above. Remington
says "hopefully" in August or most likely somewhat later.

Hope this helps,

Art,

FYI: Lonnie Hummel at Hornady said to be careful loading .30 Remington brass. It is much thinner than the
brass Remington is using for the 6.8SPC.  I have about 40 pieces of 6.8SPC brass I am experienting with,
but no .30Rem, so I can't confirm what the differences are.

Pete

Edit to add: If work & weather allow, I'm planning on testing some loads. Will post results here.

pcurtis, you must have gotten a simular email from Lannie Hummel at Hornady as I did last
month when he indicated dies were available from them. Thanks.

Zak, I would have some data from my inintial handloads useing the H335, but to make a long
story short. A Sunday or 2 ago I had just setup the Chrony and (what I call "clear air thunder")
boom boom, not too close, but I guess close enough as the Crony went by by. Just an annoyance
as I have been planning to get a Oehler (the Chrony I have is ancient).

Started to go ahead and shoot a few and a guy who was on the pistol range comes over to see
if my chronograph was functional, no says I, he tells me the "almost" new Oehler he had set
up also went by by.

Oh well, groupings from all of the test loads ranged from .75"moa to 1.75"moa, However those
were the first 25 rounds that I have put through the barrel.

Let me also say none of the loads showed any signs of high pressure, sticky extraction, blown
primers, flattened or cratered primers, etc.

I correlated my loads from the data you gave me the heads up on, ZAk. Thanks again.

I called Western Powder / Ramshot today, after hearing a rumor about using 1660 powder in 6.8SPC.

It turns out that 1660 and 1670 are non-canister powders, which means they are used by commercial loaders and not sold in the consumer market.  1660 was designed for 7.62x39 and 1670 for lightweight 5.56mm.

If I remember correctly, the commercial powder Ramshot X-Terminator is close in speed to 1660, and by extension AA-2230.

TAC is what the Ramshot tech I spoke to recommended, but he didn't have any load data.

I haven't tried either, but will try TAC when I get back in a week.

Once the AWB sunsets do you think "real" 6.8 mags will hit the market so we won't have to tinker with the 5.56/7.62 mags for this new ctg.?  I'm kickin' around the idea of an AR in 6.8, it'd be something I could hunt deer with and still have an AR battle rifle for defence, kind of a "best of both worlds" sort of deal. I'd like to be able to get ammo and mags without too much fuss though, that is one thing about the .300 Whisper, it'll use standard AR mags and you can make ammo out of 5.56/.223 brass. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

PRI is currently listing 28-round magazines for mil/LEO only.

There is still a plan for replacement mag bodies before the sunset, AFAIK.

What the heck good is a gun without ammo. This is why I think the .300 Whisper is still the best way to go if you want a "non-5.56mm" AR. Hopefully this will change in the near future and 6.8 ammo and mags will become available, until then we'll just have to cross our fingers and wait.

Alot of people keep saying that magazines are not available.  Not so.  Precsion Reflex Inc. has magazines available for the 6.8mm Rem SPC.  I think alot of people are flustered because they seem to be the only ones making magazines specifically for the 6.8mm.  They are abit pricey but none the less they are available.

You just hear everyone trying to modify their magazines they have on hand or can purchase cheap so that they don't have to pay the price that it cost to purchase a magazine made just for the 6.8mm Rem SPC.  And that makes is seem when reading most of the posts on the 6.8mm Rem SPC that there are no magazines available when in fact there are.

Here's a mag question for ya'.  Model 1 Sales is listing 5 and 10 round mags for the AR in 7.62x39mm. Would these work for the 6.8mmRem.?  If they will they're a whole lot cheaper then the PRI  10 round mags.  You can get a Model 1 Sales 10 round 7.62x39mm mags for $16 bucks as compared to $36 bucks for the PRI. What do ya' think, will they work?

TNFrank, No the magazines Model 1 sells for the 7.62x39 don't work. They are made by MWG
and are also sold by DPMS and others. I have tried those also as I have several AR's chambered
in 7.62x39 and they fit and function (well 7 out of 10) for the intended cartridge, the 3 that did
not had to be "tinkered with" but they also function properly with the 7.62x39.  I also have some
original Colt 5 round magazines for the 7.62x39 and they don't function either with the 6.8x43.

I find it quite suprising that the 'cheepo" triple-k mags do function.

As an aside Navy4Life, Dave Dunlap at PRi, will sell you 2 boxes of the factory Remington
ammo for the 6.8x43 if you are a customer or purchase some magazines (as I did).

Both PRi and M.S.T.N. sell bolts for the 6.8mm Remington

Hope this helps,

That just tears me up.  Triple-K, LOL, that is so funny that the junk they make actually works and is good for something.  I think I'd rather pay the higher price and get the PRI mags. I just can't bring myself to by a Triple-K mag. I feel the same way about U.S.A.Brand mags.
