Shot a Model 1 Sales carbine upper today.

The 6.8mm SPC makes for one hot little rifle !!

Only had a very limited supply of ammo, or I would still be at the range shooting

yes sir, full uppers, kits, barrels, no mags.

PRI is the best source for mags - PRI 6.8 mags
PRI also has complete uppers
Get yourself a couple 10 rounders, and then get some 30 or 25 rounders after the hopefull sunet of the AWB. ???

I used USGI mags, and only loaded about 5 rounds at a time.

For a upper - 6.8 Complete Upper

Recoil wasn't anything to be worried about, but with a small carbine rifle, it had a nice "bark" to it.
Especially since I am soooo used to shooting 5.56mm.

didn't really get a chance to test its accuracy potential.  Only had a box of ammo.
so just fired a couple rounds at a pie plate 50yrd down range.
(the pie plate is dead )
just had iron sights on it.

I am told, that within a couple weeks Rem. will start shipping ammo to wholesalers.
Then maybe do some longer range shooting ??
As for now. . . I am out of ammo

Those sucker aren't cheap but I would hope they may come down a little when there is more of a market and competition for them. Question - Are those new, specifically designed 6.8 mags or are they modified 5.56 mags? (I'm guessing 6.8 as it sounds like nobody has come up with a solid solution on how to modify 5.56 mags to work with more than 5-10 rounds?)

They are more $$ than a 5.56mm mag, but the price is not too bad if you consider PRI is the only company currently making them (i think?), they are a high quality product, and technically my guess is PRI is the only mag that might be called USGI for 6.8SPC (at least at this point).

I have seen some weird imported AR15 mags for the 7.62x39mm round, that functioned with  20+ rounds, but I would rather have the PRI (designed for the new cal.)

the issue with 5.56mm USGI (and most others) mags is the deep ridge that runs vertical toward the front of the mag.  It pushes against the OD of the 6.8mm brass case, and swells the mag after a 1/2 dozen rounds or so (?).  There really isn't much problem loading even more ammo into a 5.56mm mag, but when the mag swells at the sides, it doesn't want to insert into the magwell of the AR15 lower receiver.

Hopefully soon the AWB will sunset, manufacturers will be making new hi-cap mags for all calibers, and prices will get more competitive.  If is does not sunset - - I would guess there would be mag conversions offered by some companies (much like Armalite does with the AR10 and M14 mags).
So either way, I'll bet it will work its way out.

Just got back from the range. . . went to test fire some custom uppers.

I couldn't help it . . .  I had to do it . . .  I fired off the last of the box of 6.8mm.
I was wrong though, it was 4 rounds.

I sat at a bench and shot 50m with A2 irons.
The group was pretty tight . . . I must have been lucky

I will try to post a picture of the target later tonight, --- if the digi cam is in a good mood.
