Years ago I used to take my son smelting at Russel Station and nearby pond outlets ( this is the Rochester area). Any going on besides the Niagara River nowadays?

I used to go smelting in the finger lakes in the late 80’s early 90’s. We would get a 5 gallon bucket full. I emailed dec last spring to find if there were any places around. They told me there was one place near Syracuse but no public access. I know they are in Lake Erie but I don’t know if they run up there. If they do I’d love to go get some.

Another activity  pretty much gone.
