I assume this is fine?  Just asking on case the salt content is an issue.

Make sure taking beach sand isn't a violation in your area. Some beaches have protected status and you can be fined for taking away sand.

Yea, apparently I'm reading that's actually a thing.

Ah well.  Alternatively, I'm thinking about just using brass from the scrap bucket.  I wonder if anyone has tried that?

"Chromite Heavy Shooting Bag Sand 15lbs

"Our extra heavy bag sand is sold in 15 pound boxes which is enough to fill a larger rear bag with a little left over. We specifically recommend filling your rear bag with it. The extra weight in the rear will definitely help stabilize your rifle."

Poly Pellets at Walmart

Eh, probably right.  Mostly I got here because "Great Deal on Tactical Bags", which was true, but the damned things came empty.  It undermines the whole point of getting an awesome $5 deal, and spending $20 on fill.  So, was just poking around at options that maintain the deal.  I'm not poor, just an optimizer, and chagrined when a great deal costs 4x the price when done

Opaque air soft pellets work great too. Likely the same as the poly pellets.

I still have my first bag, it's two alternates tube socks doubled up and filled with spent 9mm brass.

I have poly bead filled ones now,  but it worked and was free.

Not only would salt deposits be my concern, possible microorganisms as well.

If you insist on sand, just get a bag from Home-Depot.

I made about 25-30 bags of various sizes using poly-fill (beads) and they have lasted ten years and going strong.

Much better: construction sand from a big box hardware store. Before you put into your sand bag pour it into a good size baking pan and heat it for 2 hours at 300 degrees in the oven. There is considerable moisture in the sand. Once dried properly the sand shifts better inside the bag and it’s easier to use.

I guess I’m old school and still use an old sock.  I do however make sure it’s dual use in that I fill it with rice.  Buttstock squeeze bag that can provide a snack in a pinch.
