I couldn’t decide so I bought a rectec to go with the two BGE’s I already have.     Masterbuilt electric is going to be for sale it just doesn’t do it for me.
I sold my big wood smoker. It made some great bbq but I just don’t cook for many people.

The rectec is the smaller Road Warrior 340.  It fits with what I need since it’s only the two of us.  When we have bigger get togethers I can run both setups

I have a bge and a Yoder.  Probably going to add a black stone to the back porch as well.

I’ve had my egg for years and use it all the time. The pellet will be used more as a smoker I think .

Large BGE and a pitboss here. Pitboss gets used for quick cooks if I dont feel like lighting the egg.

I have started doing steaks differently. Smoked on the pellet for about 30 minutes or so, then seared hot on the egg. Best steaks I've ever made.

I've had some really good food off some green eggs.  The local dealer hires professional cooks to come in every year.  They line the sidewalk with eggs and cook a bunch of great food and give it away.  Goal is to sell more eggs.

They each have their pros and cons.  Con of the egg is most people are not hard core enough to suffer through babysitting a fire long enough to cook a brisket on one.  They start buying computers with thermometers and fans.  By the time you're done with it, you hope to have some setup that works as well as a rectec does right out of the box.

As far as searing on a pellet goes, I have the rectec bullseyes and 590s.  They will both get up high enough to sear a steak.  The 590 takes a good 20min to get there, but it'll do it.

My stoker on my BGE is quite good at holding temp.

I just bought a Recteq to compliment my BGE. I'll still use the egg, at least I think I will. My son retired his egg after getting a Traeger, he said it was so easy to set and forget the temp he didn't want to mess with the egg any more.

I enjoy the peace of mind of being able to monitor remotely, especially overnight. I use the ThermoWorks Signals.

This is why I want one.  I use a WSM but the ease of use on pellet smokers is sooooo appealing.  Maybe next year.

It’s a tough call, I lean a little towards the BGE because I think you can get better smoke flavor out of them. Plus the versatility of doing a low and slow cook and then turning around and having blazing heat to seat a steak. Pellet grills just don’t have that high end heat, but the ease of use makes them attractive.

I bought a pellet pit boss lexington at clearance price,

Pellets don't smoke much,

i made a little hardware cloth basket to put soaked down wood chips in, it puts out a decent smoke.

Depends which one you get.  The smaller they are, they hotter they can get.  I think about the rectec 590 is the cutoff point.  I'm searing steaks fine on the 590.  It just takes a while to get there.  The smaller bullseye gets hotter and does it faster.  It has a setting called "riot".  No idea how hot that is.  Its definitely hotter than required to reasonably handle steaks, shrimp, burgers, etc.

I’m replacing my 20 year old large BGE with a pellet Joe which is in addition to a Big Joe and a griddle.
Will see how that goes but I’m hoping those 3 cover all the bases.

Why get rid of the BGE?

I have 4 rectecs.  No ragrets.  They're local to me.  Their scratch and dent sales are nuts.  You can't beat a $120 smoker.

I've got buddies with the BGE.  And there's a local outdoor grill store here that lines the sidewalk with BGEs and brings in professional chefs who make all sorts of amazing food on them, then they give it out.  You definitely can crank out some good food on one.

What sold me on the rectec was the controller and the rectangle cooking area.  On a BGE with the circle layout, most of the area is unusable space.  Unless your cooking circular food, or something you can arrange in a circle pattern.  And then everybody I know with a BGE goes out and buys some sort of temp probes and fans to try to automate it.  Whatever you end up with is cobbled together.  You get better results with something that was designed from the ground up to be an automated smoker.

We are building an outdoor kitchen and the boss said the Kamado's need to match
As much as I love my egg the upper tier Joes have so many better features which is why when it came to getting a bigger Kamado I went with a Big Joe 3 I found on Marketplace.

I can understand that. I'd be lost if I didn't have the capabilities of the egg even though my MAK gets the most work.

tell me more about their sales!  Man, I'd drive if I knew there was a good enough deal.  I suppose it's just first come first serve though.

You’re the brain I want to pick.
I have a Large BGE for Briskets but not use it except for holidays at most. Have been looking at the PitBoss combo’s- smoke a steak then sear it on other grill. They appear in videos to have a pull to open smoke into propane grill area and one of them had a pull lever that opened a vent that let heck of a lot of flame into chamber for reverse sear. One is Platinum combo other is black combo, the black one appeared to have more venting controls.
Either one was under $1000 and replacing the propane grill I use the most. Have friends and family with pellet grills and I like using them.

Yeah.  They usually don't advertise them.  They have enough employees with enough friends, it spreads fast by word of mouth.  Its first come, first serve.
I caught wind of it, then swung by after dropping my kid off at school one morning.  They just had a bunch of already assembled smokers and some accessories on sale.  Depending on how bad they were beat up or already used, they put different color stickers on them.  I snagged a couple bullseyes for like $120 a pop.  And I got a cheap rt-590 they assembled and used exactly 1 time for some promo.

One of the sales I hit up was after one of the law suits.  I guess somebody else had the trademark to the original name "rec-tec".  They sold off everything with that spelling on it dirt cheap, and switched to "rec-teq".  So all my grills still have the old spelling on it.

I will tell you to get a propane grill if you want searing. Or at the very least one of the standalone butane stoves that you can get at a lot of Asian marts. I have a Napoleon 500 Pro and the side burner is an infrared burner. I can sear the absolute crap out of things on it. A week or two ago, we picked up a couple of massive tomahawks at Sam's on discount. One was thrown into my Recteq to smoke for an hourish at low temps (believe 225 or 250F) then thrown on the infrared to sear. Came out absolutely phenomenal. I use the main body all the time for simple cooks like cooking up burgers, steaks, etc. The other day I put a baking steel on it and cranked all four burners to max and made pizza in it. Didn't temp the steel but the gauge on the lid was maxed out.
