I am wanting to hook up an RTL dongle to an android phone.

What apps are the best. Do I need a cable to power both power the dongle and run signal to the phone?

NOAA, FM, AM, Airband, SSB, etc etc. All the things.

It's been a while since I used it but SDR touch was the best app last time I checked.  There may be newer ones now.

ETA if your phone is capable of powering external devices with an OTG adapter, it should work.  But it would be better to get a powered type C USB hub and connect a battery bank to it to keep the phone charged and power the SDR.

I have not had any issues just plugging in so far.

But I haven't been using it for loooooong periods of time.

It does get warm though.

I use Velcro tape and this carrier from Etsy.

The carrier is magnetic so be aware.

I tried a few but used SDR++ the most I think.
