There are multiple clone threads in the AR-15 forum for retro M16s’, M4/M4A1, M4 Block II, Mk18, and Mk12. I think it’s time the precision rifle sub-forum gets its own clone thread. My list is non comprehensive. I’m not an expert and have not gotten to finger every gun out there. So if there is anything that needs to be addressed, fixed, or added, let me know.

If there is a rifle I am missing (which I know I am), PM me the rifle and any info you have about it and I will add it to the list.

Let the editing begin

This XM3 was issued to my friend and I was able to purchase this exact rifle from the CMP back in 2017. My CMP XM3 kit came with everything that it was originally issued with, including the PVS-22 clip-on night vision device! The only thing that wasn't included with my XM3 kit was the USMC used silencer.

The XM3's obviously couldn't transfer to the CMP with their original silencers, so those stayed with the Corps or went to DRMO. Everyone with one of these original XM3 kits has to track down one of the very early SureFire legacy FA762SS silencers, which are pretty damn rare. However, I'm extremely lucky and I was able to purchase the only 2 legit DARPA/military used legacy FA762SS silencers in private hands (there's 2 more, but they're unable to be transferred to another person because the government says that they still own them, so those 2 are impossible to get at this time). The silencers have impeccable provenance, but I'm not going to post details here. These 2 silencers are sequentially numbered and are extremely close to the serial number of the silencer that was originally issued with my USMC XM3 kit.

These 2 original FA762SS silencers have serial numbers FO1128 and FO1129. The silencer that was originally issued with my USMC XM3 was serial number FO1159, which is only 30 digits higher than the original DARPA/military tested silencer that I'll be pairing with the rifle. This is the only original USMC used XM3 kit that also has a silencer that was originally part of the DARPA project! It's not the silencer that the XM3 was originally issued with, but it's as close as you can possibly get to that silencer.

Here's my original USMC XM3 with it's original logbook and original DARPA used silencers. I plan on getting some rattle can FDE paint and spraying the black silencer to match the paint that's on the rifle. The other silencer has the original sniper paint on it from when it was tested by DARPA and the Marines, so I'm going to leave it as it is. I only have 1 original USMC used XM3, so I have no idea what to do with this 2nd original silencer.

Here's the very last page in the rifle's logbook, it documents the last time the rifle was fired (I doubt that the rifle has been fired since then, and I haven't fired the rifle since purchasing it). I don't want to shoot the rifle, since it's the last time it was fired was in Iraq during the war.

I hope you guys found this to be interesting, it's definitely a very unique and historical set!

We should talk. That second suppressor you have would be interesting. And to see if you know anything about our XM3.

the mk13 Mod 5T i have seen are all stiller based. They have stiller actions that have 300 wm machined off and have electro pen '7.62 TRAINER'. The barrels are unprofiled shortened mk13-5 barrels. They look 24". Optics on them are beast lights with NF milspec mag mounts.

SureFire had about 100+ of these sitting around, and now they've decided to release them to dealers (since the government isn't buying anymore). It's a great price, considering that some of these 7.62 4 prongs have sold between collectors for $600 to $800+ in the past.

The only issue is that the muzzle devices for sale right now have the NSN laser engraved on them, whereas the military used flash hiders never had the NSN on them. As far as I know the military didn't have the NSN on the flash hider, but if someone has a photo or proof to the contrary, please post it here. So, if that's the case, the non-NSN 7.62 4 prong flash hiders are still going to be much more sought after and much more expensive than the ones currently for sale with dealers. Expect to still pay $500+ for a non-NSN flash hider, if any ever pop up for sale!

    That's a good point.

The last batch of MK13s were the ones that went to the Marines in early 2018 I think, I don't think the Marine Mod 7s had them. And the Mk13 program is now complete.

The NSN markings have been on the 5.56 version in the military, but only since about 2019 - 2020?

So yes, most likely never had it. I'm just glad I don't have to use a 3P for my build.

Not sure how knowledgeable collectors/cloners who completely understand the factors involved in the pricing and then agree to pay it are being ripped off. Collectors/cloners know exactly what they want, and the parts they need fulfill a very specific purpose. The entire point of cloning for most people is to be as accurate as possible. It's honestly amazing that this even needs to be said anymore on a website that has dozens of currently active clone threads with thousands of collectors/clone builders participating at various levels. To an extent, this is also a clone thread, and a lot of amazing clone builds and real rifles have been posted here over the years.

If anyone wants to help collectors/cloners save money, then drop a few photos of a US military unit fielding Mk13 Mod 7's that have SureFire 4 prongs with the NSN number on it. A lot of people would find that to be extremely beneficial, but until it happens we're stuck with non-NSN 4 prongs for our extremely detailed clone builds. Hell, I don't have another non-NSN 4 prong for my 3rd Mk13 Mod 7 build, so that would help me out as well!

    Interesting.

    Was it a recent production?

    Or a recently overhauled gun?

The NSN markings have been on the 5.56 version in the military, but only since about 2019 - 2020?

So yes, most likely never had it. I'm just glad I don't have to use a 3P for my build.

Correct - the non NSN are the ones you want if you are building a museum grade mk13-7. Those will still command a higher value to autistic collectors.

if you have pics of the serial and or receiver markings - you can get an idea of it was overhauled. I can say at least some socom guns with seals were retrofitted and the XTSP triggers were updated to G triggers. Some G triggers again updated with the revised G triggers.

Just picked up these 2 NF ATACR Mil-Spec scopes, have you guys ever seen turrets like this on 4-16x ATACR's before?

Just mounted the ATACR with the Beast style elevation turret onto my prototype Remington CSR. I also added a few other interesting accessories to the rifle......

God, I love that little rifle.

Any idea what the story is with Remington Defense - like the current state of it?

Are they simply gone and done selling literally anything to civilians ever again?

Haven't seen anything new from them in years - just assumed they were done and over with.

    They're so... irregular.

I've held a version of the one on the bottom.  The symmetry and proportion of the overall scope are magnetic.

Only took 5 or 6 years to find the carbon fiber handguard and barrel, but it was worth the wait! There were probably 5 or less carbon fiber handguards made by Lancer for Remington to use on their prototype CSR's (they also made a few carbon fiber handguards for the PSR/MSR, Surgeon CSR/SRL, and M40A6 RACS chassis). From what I've heard from former Remington employees, Remington paid about $5,000 for each of the custom ordered handguards. I called Lancer a few years ago to inquire about having some RACS chassis carbon fiber handguards made, but they might only make them if someone place a large order for a few hundred units.

So, the RACS chassis carbon fiber handguards that are currently in people's collections will probably remain the only ones made. Remember how rare/expensive these RACS carbon fiber handguards actually are when they pop up for sale, you might only have 1 chance to acquire one if any get listed. Most of these will probably just quietly trade hands between collectors though.

    Here's my M40A6:

Yes, both are non-illuminated FFP. I happen to know the exact history of these scopes. The prototype NF ATACR scopes (in my previous post) were originally sent to Remington Defense to use on their prototype CSASS rifle submissions for a government contract (pretty much a compact M110 type rifle). The rifles are pretty awesome, but they lost the trials (I think they lost to HK). The scopes were then purchased from Remington by one of the employees who worked on various contract submission rifles for Remington Defense. He said that they also had a few prototype S&B scopes for the prototype CSASS rifles too.

Apparently, the 2 prototype NF scopes that I have are just about unique. They might be the only ones made or they might have made 2 or 3 of each type, but no one can confirm the exact number produced. They're really cool scopes and they're 2 examples that I've never seen before. I've owned about 60+ various NF Mil-Spec/Army Spec/Nav-Spec/etc. scopes over the years, so finding a new type that I've never owned before is pretty exciting for me.

Here's an photo from a few years ago. I sold/traded a lot of these scopes, and have added more to the collection since then. I've actually only owned 1 civilian NF scope, it was the first one that I purchased about 20 years ago. All the other NF scopes I've owned have been military scopes. I have absolutely no idea how many different types/variations of military NightForce scopes I've owned. Sometimes it's just a reticle change or different markings on an elevation turret, so it's not just large differences like magnification range or ATACR vs NXS. NightForce has made countless hundreds of different types of military scopes over the years, so it's always possible to run into something that no one has seen before.

Those 4-16xs are literal unicorns. As identified, they were for CSASS and other limited government programs. The one with the top hat on top is extremely unique, as it was a CSASS prototype. They were so early, the few that came back got converted into new models. It's probably the only one in the open market.

The other one is a TSWG program scope. Also very, very uncommon outside of government hands. Also a very early scope. Both of these are 2014ish era as the 4-16x wasn't commercially released until 2015, and it came with the upsized engraving on the magnification ring and numbered distances on the parallax adjustment.

Thanks man. Its been a long time coming. Still have a few that are not pictured. I am grateful I got in at the tail end of you having the Mod 0 stocks. Sure you can recognize your stocks, parts and influence on them. I can do more detailed posts on each rifle, outlining the parts and timeframe / history of each piece.
