Not really answering your question, as your more focused on those "high" end machines.

But as I've seen others giving their input on the "working" ones they own, like those good Kubota's and other ones..

If you do ever decide to go lower end, as a half step: don't discount the Ghetto Fab "OG" SxS being the base model "working" SX 4X4 Kawasaki Mule.

Got to be blunt, I don't know how we got along without it before. Bought it for our mountainous 60 acres in WV that we're slowly making a homestead. Cutting trails, exploring the land, just "Mule" shit.

Is it fast... lol no, it couldn't catch a cold. But, in 4X4, low range and diff locked, it is about unstoppable and will climb a wall. If it gets stuck, hi-lift jack and a recovery strap will get it out of about everything

Our two properties are 300 miles apart, very easy to trailer and "small" (I got a perfectly fitting aluminum trailer for it). But here is the funny thing that happened, it gets just as much use at our primary home. My wife uses it for everything, landscaping, taking the garbage down (our driveway is a 1/4 mile down a small mountain also). Its been overloaded to the gills with soil/mulch/rocks. Pulled stumps. Just everything.

Not bad for 9K and change off the showroom floor. I don't know how your state is regarding "ATV" registration & Taxes but being we have AG property, its considered a Farm use vehicle and not ATV.

Biggest downside, Brakes Suck and I don't like CVT engagement of it in some circumstances. It gets sporty for the initial "downhill" when on goat-paths. Kind of got to work the e-brake and add throttle (counterintuitive) to spool up the CVT and get the low range reduction.

Not cool "lawn photo" of wife doing stuff but, again just a good solid cheap machine that can do allot.

We're actually looking for a "2nd" Machine and I'm also kind of in obsessing mode on what to do as well.

Between another Mule, A Honda Rancher ATV (Honda's dont use CVT's) or an ARGO (which I really want)

I just got a CanAm Defender HD7. It has the new “little” (for CanAm) 700cc engine, but that thing shits and gets. Tops out at almost 70, which is plenty fast for me. Bought new for 13k. A hard deal to beat these days. It is new, but I am absolutely loving this thing so far. I am normally a Honda/Yamaha guy, but I am happy to report that the fit/finish and build quality on the CanAm is right up there with the best.

Ive owned or driven them all. You are correct that the reason there’s more Polaris in the shop is because of their popularity. Polaris sells more than all the other dealers combined.

The first question I ask is : How tall are you? If you’re over 6’ you’d be more comfortable in a CanAm.
At least sit in one of you can’t take it for a test drive. Polaris makes an excellent machine. Don’t listen to the retards.

As you can see OP, opinions are all over the place.
Someone brought up a good point that was a driver for me, leg room, if you are tall.

I’m 6’4 with a 37” inseam.  I pretty much based my buy on the one I fit in best.

True, but the Kubota RTV-XG850 C3PO and I posted about is known as a hybrid, something between the pure sport vs. pure work models (like the slow as molasses Kubota diesel RTVs).  So, the OP has the option of getting a little bit of both.

40 mph is about as fast as I'd want to go in an UTV; 70 mph would scare the living shit out of me.

I've got a 2015 rzr900 trail.
Best 15k I ever spent, winch and plow went to 28" tires clutch kit snorkel and full uhmw skid plate.

Does everything I need although I don't put nearly the amount of miles/hrs you would.
I've got just about 5k on it.
Maintenance is easy buy the diff/ trans kits from Polaris, oil and filter from Napa. I have a cleanable air filter from a company that builds desert racing machines. No oil just blow out with low pressure air and put it back.

I ride from my house and therefore I get on a 55mph highway for a bit to get to the trailhead. My general feels fine ripping at 55-60mph keeping up with traffic.

Bought a Polaris 570 full size ranger is 2016 for $7500 out the door.  Put 4000 miles on it so far, mostly doing farm work, towing, hauling tools, dirt, mulch, rock, concrete blocks,  100 gallon sprayer, etc. Work the shit out of it and it's been 100%.

4000 miles, zero breakages, still on the original belt.

My only wear item is tires as we drive 2.5 miles each way to and from our farm on paved roads and the pavement eats the tires quickly, my next set will be harder rubber, truck style tires, as we really don’t need mud tires. I’d love rear light mud tires and front street tires honestly, for best traction/ wear options.

Iv had 4 polaris vehicles so far over the last 30 years, 3 atvs and a ranger, and never had any issues.

Finally had to buy new tires for my old Mule 550 (286cc, maybe 12hp, top speed 22mph). I really wanted a turf pattern tire but the only tires available for it are aggressive knobbies or super aggressive knobbies. It tracks mud onto my driveway and carport, fucking mess.

I'll post the quote again from the parts manager from Honda East Toledo, which sells and repairs all of the big brands.   This was from emails back and forth a couple of years ago.

Can am are gas guzzlers, Polaris can and will sell to anyone with a pay stub, credit or not, as far as the quality goes....I let it speak for itself.  All the machine out back in our stable, 90% of them.....Polaris sportsmans and RZR's.

I had to put a belt and clutch rollers in my FIL's Can Am HD8 with under 1K miles on it, stock tires.   Otherwise it's been ok, but with only 1K miles on it, not really enough use to tell how it will be in the long term.

I'm a Honda ATV guy, but there new stuff isn't as good as their old stuff.  For years I'd buy 3-4 basketcase Honda ATV's (usually sunk, and then ridden till they died) and rebuild them.   I have a lot of people show up and say "Hey, I've heard you're good with ATV/ UTV stuff, can you fix this?" and I've fixed a lot of stuff over the last decade.

Were I looking at SxS's, especially a "sporty" one, I'd look at Yamaha first.   The Honda 1000's had some issues early in the design that seem to have gotten better with some component upgrades.  The700's aren't really a "sport" UTV, and the three speed transmission leaves a lot to be desired.   The Yamaha has the best belt system.   Hondas don't have belts.   That puts them top of the heap for me.

Can Am's are powerhouses, but power breaks stuff.

Polaris and Arctic Cat are bottom of the barrel garbage as brands, and not only would I not buy one, I won't work on them anymore.   They're just shit build quality, parts are $$$, and they have to be repaired over and over again.

Polaris dealerships here don't last.  Nobody buys them.  The power junkies buy Can Am, everyone else buys Honda.

We have 3 Can Am X3 XMR's and if you want a go fast machine with a great ride and handling, they're hard to beat. If you're going to run trails at 15mph, I'd suggest something a little less sports car like and go with a Maverick Sport, Commander, Kawasaki KRX, Yamaha Rmax... Accessories/upgrades also get very expensive on the Rzr's and X3's because there's huge aftermarket support and you'll constantly be seeing something else your machine cant live without. I have 19K in aftermarket stuff on mine.

Like someone else said, the X3's and RZR's are going to require more maintenance and care than many of the other options out there. Horsepower and performance come with a price. Anyone that says different, either abuses their machine like it's one of these or drives one of these like they're taking Miss Daisy out for a Sunday drive.

I have a Honda Pioneer 520 that I am happy with. That is about as small as you can go, seats 2, we use it as a general utility vehicle. Put a roof, window, winch on it, otherwise it is stock.

My experience is more with the working machine side of things so I really can't help you with the go fast models.  I can tell you that my CanAm 1000cc Limited two door is as fast as I need to go.  Is it going to dominate the sand dunes and trails?  No.  I may be the last one to pull up at the end, but I'll be comfy with the AC on, a fresh cold beer from the cooler that isn't shook up to hell, jamming my favorite tunes, and not sweaty/filthy/sore/tired.

Pioneer 500/520 are super popular with hunters for tight woods and other people who want a smaller machine.

They are almost in their own category with how nimble they are.

Definitely not fast and the suspension is rough but they can go places bigger machines just can't.

I just bought a ‘23 72” X3 Turbo RR after riding Polaris Sportsman’s for years. It’s great. I shopped different models for almost a year before I narrowed it down to what I wanted and found a great deal.

I was never a brand loyal guy, but I don’t see me going back to Polaris unless they make a 180 with their designs, quality and price. They don’t offer the value compared to their competitors.

Had a Yamaha since '17 or '18. Zero issues except dumbassedness. Those responsible got the bill. Kids Otherwise it's been tight, and since no issues, but not raced and really not many hours. The motos have gotten a lot more use. May not even be a YXZ but it's one of the sports models.

Have a couple Kubota Utilities, RTV diesels I'm in a lot more. They've been no issue either, good number of hours and the hands are on those more than the trucks it's seems. I'm pretty happy I thought they'd be a shit show but no real serious uptick in expenses.

One thing about the X3 turbos is they don't like slow. If I can't keep it over 35 the temp rises fast in warm ambient temps. Then when you do get it up to speed it cools down fast but all that heat dumps into the cab. It's not a putt putt machine.

That's my first choice for a strictly fun machine.  Will not be as fast as some of the Polaris or Can Ams, but I'd trade that for  reliability. I'm a Honda/Yamaha guy but they seem to make better utility/rec ones than pure sport imo.

I have a Ranger Crew XP1000 Texas Edition that has been flawless.

Would buy again.

So I can take it camping with me. It's been to quite a few small Wyoming lakes and is awesome on the trail.

The lower pic is my 2023 Kawasaki KRX 1000.
It's faster, rides better and is far more comfortable than my RZR.
This is the one I take when me and my friends ride in the South Hills or to Jarbridge from Salmon Dam.

Test drive a few and see which you like most.
The Honda Talon is built like a brick and rides like one.
Arctic Cats and Can Ams have seats that sit low like a dune buggy. I like how the KRX sits higher.

The utility versions have come a looooong way since 2013.

No, my ‘23 Ranger XP1000 won’t keep up with the current RZR, but it hauls ass and has a ton of suspension.

It will do 60+ mph and handles the trails in Rocksprings (named that for a reason) on my ranch comfortably and easily.

It’s a good “best of both worlds” machine.

We own an OG Can Am Maverick X RS with the 1000cc. It's been great, but I had to do a lot of mods when we bought it to keep the belt running cool. Changed the clutch, changed the belt cover from a 1 input to 2. Now it runs cool even at wide open throttle in 110 degree heat.

We were like you, wanted a 2 seater.  It's just wife and I. But I wish we'd have gotten a 4 seater. Every once in a while friends want to go and we can't take them. It would also be nice to throw camping, picnic or shooting gear in the rear seats.  I have a cargo bed but I've literally dropped rifles out of it when they got hung up on brush.

Consider a 4 seater.

my friends all drive polaris and have had multiple rebuilds on stock 1000CC machines. One of them has had to rebuild the top end twice.

I am a BIG fan of the Rotax motor in the CanAms.  Those are super reliable motors.

if I was buying again today I would buy:

1. CanAm Maverick of the width you want, 4 seater.  Turbo if you are ripping dunes, non turbo if you want trail riding and stuff
2. Honda Talon: no belts.

polaris is ahead in suspension tech with the dynamix system, but I value reliability over hitting whoops in the desert at 80 mph.

40 mph is about as fast as I'd want to go in an UTV; 70 mph would scare the living shit out of me.

I run mine up the interstate. 72” wide machines are pretty stable.

I've got just about 5k on it.
Maintenance is easy buy the diff/ trans kits from Polaris, oil and filter from Napa. I have a cleanable air filter from a company that builds desert racing machines. No oil just blow out with low pressure air and put it back.

You sure do love posting that garbage in every utv thread. Just stop already bro. To the folks who know what we’re talking about, you just look retarded.

WTF!

I've got 6 of the diesel Kubota and they're about as boring to ride as a golf cart.

How has their reliability been? Mine has left me stranded a few times.
