People complain about Blackstone and all these rental companies buying up homes to rent them out. But as I look through the property owners for the rentals in my area, the majority of homes that aren't being listed by corporations are listed by Indians with phone number that aren't even local. I look up their names on LinkedIn and they universally went to some random school in India, became a consultant at Tata or Infosys and somehow have bought up homes nowhere near where they live and are renting them out. Love watching the country get whored out at every level. Renting a home from Rakesh Raju who lives 800 miles away is definitely preferable to some soulless corporation

They probably bought the home while attending University then moved back home and just rent it out for the income.
I don't see the issue if it's just some rando Indian dude....as they don't have the ability to actually move a market and manipulate it like Zillow, Black Rock etc. |

Around me in the Northeast, Indians are buying small commercial properties and strip malls and leaving them vacant. I can think of several just on my road.
They lost the anchor store at a strip mall for demanding unrealistic terms as to lease length and cost and now the space has been vacant for several years. They do not understand negotiations eventually must come to an end. There is a window of opportunity that comes and goes but apparently they do not care. The taxes and holding costs must be astronomical. |

Of all the rental properties in the US, only about 30% are owned by corporations...and the vast majority of those "corporations" are single-proprietor LLCs, ergo normal families that own investment properties for family wealth. Big corps like Blackstone own a single-digit percentage of that 30%. Both of these things are old man yelling at cloud. |

I personally don’t care about the skin color of a land owner, but citizenship should be a prerequisite. If a foreign person/corporation/entity violates US law the American taxpayer bears the brunt of the cost to enforce those laws.

So I shouldn’t be allowed to own the multiple properties that I do in LLCs because it hurts your precious feelings? I should be required to forgo the protections LLCs provide because it makes you upset? |

I have been running into this a lot too, as we are selling a rental.
They are shell buyers for either a govt or very large overseas company. Also, look up hotels, massive numbers of them are owned by h1b types. |

I prepare taxes for a living. Lately, I have prepared returns for a number of Indians living in the U.S., many of whom do own rental properties.
For many of them, the rental properties are their first or second homes. When they advance in their careers and have enough money to buy a new home, or move to a new city/state due to work, they don't sell their starter homes. Instead, they use them as rental properties. That's smart investing in my mind. For a lot of years, career military personnel did the same thing, especially officers and senior NCO's. Whenever they got PCS orders, they kept the old house and rented it out, buying a new home when they got to their next duty station. If they got orders back to a former duty station, they had a place to live and when they retired, they either had a number of paid-for homes which generated monthly income or they could sell them and make a nice profit. |

Around here we are absolutely infested with indians. They can’t drive worth a shit, and they ALL drive Teslas, like it’s some sort of hindu status symbol. All of my rentals are in LLCs. Why can't a company own residential land? And your feelings don't matter. The situation you explain is a minor annoyance to the market. But the issue is bigger. What happens when a Chinese billionare buys 250,000ac of farmland and just sits on it to stop American farmers from being able to farm it and feed Americans? That was the issue at hand that started the ball rolling on preventing foreign nationals from holding American realestate. There are problems beyond the individuals you are thinking of that are causing problems that need to be addressed. |
