Just unexpectedly won a gunbroker auction on a 223 REM 700
Seems like a 24” sporter barrel with iron sights If I were inclined to rebarrel, inspire me Stick with 223 and get a barrel profiled for my AEM5? Any other hot new .224s I could squeeze through the AEM5? I’m probably just looking for target shooting unless I could get something with enough energy to meet Colorado hunting regs (6mm, 1000ft. Lbs) to go after pronghorn I have plenty of .30 suppressors so anything in a 6mm family that would work? |

Do you reload?
I've always liked 6mm x 45. Great cartridge and I've always wondered why it isn't more popular. Used to shoot up to 90 gr Sierra bullets in mine. Handload only though. Brass was as easy as just using .223 brass and running it through the die. Been thinking about building another one. |

6x45 has always been a favorite of mine. Easy to reload for and parts are pretty cheap. Higher velocities with same weight bullets as the 223/556 ain't anything to turn your nose up to. I think you can only go up to 85gr bullets and have then fit in an AR mag. Always wanted to rebarrel one of the Tikka T3 varmint rifles back in the day to shoot 95gr bullets with 8208 xbr almost exclusively. If you are serious i would check out Mad Dog Weapon systems. They are like the kings of 223 based wildcats and have several. 6mm Mongoose from him is like a product improved 6x45. But i think you have to fireform the brass to get the most out of then cartridge, but it has been years since i looked anything of this up. That was the main reason i hesitated and then i built my 6.5 grendel.

6x45 guys;
I have an accurized Model 7 action in the safe, and am thinking of building it into a youth rifle. What barrel length do yall prefer? Do you think it is more effective on deer than other 223 based cartridges? I can't make my mind up. Some days I want to do a 204 ruger or 20 practical, or a straight 223, or 223AI, or 300blk, or 6x45... |

.277 Wolverine is a fun round if you reload

204 Ruger + Squirrel is a close second behind 223 for target shooting.

Get a 1:7 to 1:8 twist .223 Wylde chambered barrel and enjoy everything from varmint shooting with light bullets or 700+ yards with the heavies.

.223 Ackley is a lot of fun. Pretty easy to re-chamber, and you can shoot standard .223 out of it as well.

Hands down, the 6x45. It's what the .223 should have been. Got two, and they are more accurate than any of my .223s, pack more punch, and easy to reload.
And no, I'm not dissing the .223, got plenty. But the 6x45..... |

300 BLK, 204 Ruger, or 277 WLV.
Depends on what kind of fun you're looking for. |

Would stick with the 223 if it were me, but I really have a soft spot for 223 bolt guns so I am a little biased.

6x47 Remington is an interesting cartridge.
I have a Hart built 40XBR in this chambering. Need to shoot it someday. BTW - It is the .222Rem bolt face. it came first. |

Fast twist 223 if you handload. 223Ai fast twist would be nice too

The 30 Apache. It's a very old bench rest round that I've chambered in AR15s before. Just a 223 cylinder or basic brass necked down to .308. It pushes a 150gr flat nose at 2250fps making it almost a twin to the 30/30 except out of a 16.5" barrel and very easily suppressed.
