I don't know if y'all remember my recent post about finding a box full of bowling trophies up in my attic.

There were two more boxes.  I dragged one of them down, intending to toss it out, but in my neverending search for the elusive attic-stored transferable MG, I decided to go through it, looking for treasures.

Mostly bowling trophies, but also this box:

Hmm.  Interesting.  What in the world is the one and only original Merry Go Round Bar?  Inside were all these things:

They go together like so:

I cleaned it all up, and filled it with plain tap water, but try as I might I couldn't get it to pump any water out.   I took the pump apart (the top is just press-fit onto the barrel) and noticed that it didn't look like it even could pump liquid.  In fact, inside the barrel was a piston like you see in a manual air pump.   Also, the washer between the globe and the pump came out looking like this:

In a rare stroke of genius, I realized how this thing is supposed to work.  The pump must shoot a quick shot of compressed air into the globe, which would force liquid up the drop tube and out the spigot.  I had to go to Lowes anyway, so while I was there I bought a rubber washer that looked like it could fo in there.  I had to trim a bit of rubber off, but voila!  Eureka!  And so forth!

I have the exact same thing as the OP and that's what I use it for. My parents and grandparents used to put anisette in it for parties as an after dinner drink. It's pretty fun at parties, people seem to enjoy drinking out of the little mugs.

You can have a bowling trophy if you want. I still have plenty.

I found this portrait in the attic of my last house, which was built in 1910.  I contacted the previous owners, who had lived there for years and had inherited the house from an aunt and uncle who had lived there for decades.  They had no idea who it was or if it might have predated their family owning the house.

The company moved in 1960 so the bar is 1950's probably . Very nice. You should display a bowling trophy in your house.

It's a green liqueur, primarily flavored with anise but it has a bunch of other botanicals in it. You put water in a little fountain, similar to the one you have but not exactly. You get a special glass that has a bottom bulbed portion. Fill the bottom with Absinthe up to the top of the bulb, then you get a perforated absinthe "spoon" to put over the glass, put a sugar cube on it, and run water over the sugar cube and into the absinth until it forms a "Louche" where it gets cloudy and opaque. Absinthe is REALLY strong (like around 68-70% usually), so you water it down which also causes the botanicals to precipitate out, resulting in the cloudy Louche.

Or something like that, I could be off on some of the details. I'm sure I'll be corrected by someone.

Cool find.

In my folks attic I left my mom's super creepy porcelain face doll and some of my childhood toys in a far corner setup like the doll was playing with my toys. If that don't creep the new owners out nothing will. Come to think of it they sold the house two years later ...
