Since they believe we are to expect prices to rise for summer, only the sheep can't see we are already $1.25 higher than after the election. So with restaurants out of the plans, add in weekend travels and hotel stays. Sure, I'll obviously pay whatever is at the pump, but the economy and local businesses will suffer. Not from just me, but for the masses. We are near the 2008-era gas prices and we are supposedly doing better.

I don't drive as much as most people (30K miles in four years), and my car is pretty economical.  I do try to plan my errands to get it all done in one excursion from the house.

I will ride my bicycle a mile to Publix if I only need a few things.

Everything is going up and up. There are dips occasionally but it's very temporary and nothing you can realistically stock.

Groceries, housing, energy, credit rates, and insurance has tripled since 2019. I'm probably leaving out many other things. Taxes are for some reason up too.

People have to get to work, but they don't have to do extra driving. I believe credit cards and human nature will hide the pain for long time.

You are definitely right about people having short memories.

Expected to go up?  It's already here @ $3.86 in my AO.  But fuck it - I hope it goes to $5 in Sept/Oct.  Dems will have to print waaaayyyy more ballots in Nov.

Given how much inflation we've had over the last four years, I'm kinda surprised it's not higher.

Thankfully we have a lot of US production now and rising prices will encourage more.

I doubt I make any major changes to my fuel use unless prices pass $7 or $8/gal.

I check Gas Buddy almost daily. I will drive 2-5 miles out of my way for cheapest price. If I am going to be on another side of town for some reason, will check prices there to see if there is a lower price than on my side of town.

About to go fill up at 1.95 a gallon at kroger.  4x the fuel points on gift cards.  Get 250$ gift card then go to heb where good groceries are then fill up a dollar cheaper per gallon.

With the Subaru Crosstrek, commuting and getting around town I get 27-28mpg, so a tank of gas ($40) lasts about 3 weeks.
I live only 15 minutes from work.

Not impacting me yet.

A friend works at a small hotel/restaurant.  Both sides of the business are regularly booked to capacity.

I am not rippin on anyone and I am sure as hell not trying to act like I am above the mentioned issues.  I have to watch my spending and I don't eat at restaurants very often at all.  But the the truth is the truth, they point people to other hotels because they are full every week.

$3.14 today, lowest I can recall was $0.98 in about the same year

Considering everything else that’s changed price in that time it’s pretty tame

I'm getting close to 30 mpg in my current car, but I have to run 93 so that evens it out a bit.

I WFH most of the time now so my personal vehicle driving is way down since 2020.

Maybe 3 months ago (2 months ago?) I was paying ~$3.60/gal for premium. Just paid $4.80/gal today. Last tank a week ago was $4.63/gal. Under Orange man bad I was paying sub $3/gal and driving my truck at 16MPG because fuel was cheap.

I drive ~50 miles a day at ~23MPG average with the car.

Yeah, it hurts.

My commute isn't bad and I have to do it obviously, but I have adjusted my life in other ways. I have cut way back on my main hobby, especially going to contests further out town because of the fuel costs. I've also cut way back on the random drives I used to take when I needed to have some alone time and clear my head

For which I sincerely thank you because I average 12-20 miles per week on my car now, depending on if I make one trip to the grocery store or two.

here's the big kicker...

Since 2019, the United States has been producing oil at a rate faster than ANY other country... Russia, Saudi... all of them.  And since 2023, Biden has had the country producing even more oil at an all time high to try and combat inflation and prices that's been threatening dem control... And gas/grocery prices still aren't "low".  Just imagine what happens to prices and fuel when US production rates return to normal levels.

https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61545#:~:text=Crude%20oil%20production%20in%20the,than%2013.3%20million%20b%2Fd
Has the US increased oil production?
The United States produced more crude oil than any nation at any time, according to our International Energy Statistics, for the past six years in a row. Crude oil production in the United States, including condensate, averaged 12.9 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2023, breaking the previous U.S. and global record of 12.3 million b/d, set in 2019. Average monthly U.S. crude oil production established a monthly record high in December 2023 at more than 13.3 million b/d.

In 2008 when cars were frequently running out of gas in front of my commercial vehicle at work average entry level wage at retail/restaurant/service was $9 an hour gas hit $4.50. Currently it's $16 locally for same jobs.

Gas 87 octane would need to hit $8-9 a gallon to see the same impact.

Keeping refineries going and the price of oil pays my bills. And keeping power plants alive is a partial contributer.
