Jumping into a foam pit at a retail gymnastics gym. From 3 ft! My gut wrenches for him. Beautiful, sweet redheaded boy.
We have a whole family of doctors including orthopods, but they are all out of state. So include Myer in your prayers. |

The last time it happened, I had even asked them not to go since the injury rate is so high. They went anyway! |

My son was 2 or 3 when he broke one of his lower leg bones on a trampoline while I was in Japan. I came back a week or less later and he was already walking around the house with a cast and no crutches.
Femurs are hard to break. That's odd. |

Sucks but he will rebound.
What’s going to suck more is the amount out times you have to tell the story at the hospital, we even got a special colored wrist band when my son broke his arm when he was 3 after he fell off the porch. Felt like guilty until proven innocent |

Have him checked by an orthopedist. Normal femurs are pretty hard to break.

Very rare. Kids are driving him to specialists at a university about an hour away. They have video of him jumping into the pit and breaking it, then screaming. Heartbreaking.

Redheaded boy?....sorry for him
Redhead girls are hot, though. Certainly have a childrens orthopedic doctor follow up on this, a femur on a 3 year old is pretty hard to break. Other stuff will break or get fucked up first generally. If he hit something on the way down maybe then a femur fracture. But a 3 foot fall most of the time a little kid at most gets some bruises. |

My oldest did that when he was just turning 2. Spiral fracture and in a spica cast. He adapted and learned how to walk with it on, crazy how kids can adapt. Anyway he is 22 now and no issues. The break point is actually stronger is what we were told back then.

He'll bounce back in no time and it's much better than breaking a femur at 31, when TheFear sets in. Just a reference point, not a red line. May make him a sensible daredevil |

My little brother broke his femur just below the hip when he was not much older. We were messing around on the bunk beds and his legs went through a ladder rung and he fell backwards. He was in traction for weeks, and when he got out he was in a near full body cast. His broken leg down to the ankle, his other leg down to mid-thigh, and it went all the way up to his chest. My sister and I used to put him on his stomach on the kitchen floor and spin him around much to his amusement.

My son broke his femur at age 8 jumping onto the couch over the arm. Turned out he has fibrous dysplasia, which prevent bones in certain spots from maturing all the way. They screwed his leg back together and he had no weight on it for 6 weeks, no cast. Younger kids generally end up in a spica pelvis cast.
Fibrous Dysplasia doesn’t go away, so my son has already had another surgery to put in stronger and longer hardware. Good luck. |

View Quote This is true, but like building up a hot rod or ORV, you've beefed up one location and transferd the load to another and that generates load casting. Fix this, beef it up, transfer the load to the next weakest point. Wash ,rinse ,repair. Broke my right radius 3 times and Tibia and Fibia ONCE, I don't suggest it! I got plenty of plates screws and rods and maybe a few small connections to keep me together. I can't imagine the pain that Evel Kinevel lived with late in life compared to what I deal with. Because I got a lot of localized pain in certain areas, and the Dr.s will manage your pain, but you'll never truly be pain free until the end. |

Prayers. That is a bad break, but guessing he will be ok in the long run. I broke my femur when i was 6 in the 80s. Things are a lot more advanced in how they treat them now. I was in the hospital for a month with a pin in my leg, then had a body cast for months.
Made a full recovery and no issues since. Played physical high school sports and still ski and other outdoor activities frequently |

That seems odd. I toss my 11 month old in the foam ball pit from almost that high. I'm pretty careful about which way he lands but still hard to imagine busting a femur in there.

That was either a lotto odd shot, or more than likely something else was wrong like a bone cyst or more unmentionable problems. He needs to get a few tests done.
