[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Removing hard water stains from brick

Over the years, our sprinkler system has occasionally sprayed onto the side of the house. I have that problem solved now, but need to remove these hard water stains from the brick. What’s the easiest solution? I’m going to put flower beds along that same area, so not worried about killing the grass.

try vinegar

Just straight up vinegar or do I need some concentrated something or other?

I'd use aluminum brightener from NAPA. Start with 2:1 dilution in a pump sprayer. Wear a respirator and ppe.

try straight up vinegar. The stains are calcium carbonate, vinegar will dissolve it. But, it's a weak enough acid where it shouldn't etch the brick/mortar.

Maybe Zep Big Orange? Maybe at home depot? I use the aerosol version for iron stains in the shower. Best thing I have found so far

I tried out the straight household vinegar and a scrub brush. No luck at all.

Yep. It takes red clay and rust stains off also.
