The US has purchased 81 Soviet-era combat aircraft from Kazakhstan, the Kyiv Post reports. Kazakhstan, which is upgrading its air fleet, auctioned off 117 Soviet-era fighter and bomber aircraft, including MiG-31 interceptors, MiG-27 fighter bombers, MiG-29 fighters, and Su-24 bombers from the 1970s and 1980s. The motive behind the US purchase remains undisclosed, said the Post, but it raised the possibility of their potential use in Ukraine, where similar aircraft are in service. https://www.defensemirror.com/news/36665 |

Now we just need to get those fuckers to stop doing 3rd party chips and technology sales to Russia of things that are sanctioned.

Out of curiosity what are they upgrading to? From the article it sounds like they're willing to become closer to the west. They going to buy f16s? Funny that russian media was already mentioning invading them after Ukraine.

$20k? I'd of bought a mig29 or 31, I'd be playing DCS in my front yard right now.

Not just to give to Ukraine but to prevent them from falling into Putin's hands. He is no doubt desperate for parts if nothing else.

Kazakhstan is the only country besides Russia who ended up with MiG-31 when Soviet Union broke up. Be cool to stick one in a museum.

Wonder how many are currently air worthy. At that price I’m guessing few if any.
