I have a 34 gen 5 MOS with stock sights that needs an optic. I can’t decide if I should just get an SCS and call it good, or get a quality plate, new taller irons, and run a 507comp I have laying around. I’d love to use the factory plate but everything I’m reading indicates they are made of tin foil. Would the SCS be too small for a nightstand / range gun? If I roll with the SCS and purchase one, I can use the 507comp on something different.

Thanks

I’ve been using an SRO on a Glock factory plate for years. World keeps on spinning.

Have several dpp pros.  On shadow 2 and Stacatto.

Think I prefer the scs on my Glock.

I like the SCS I have but there are better options.

The 507 Comp is nice but for my G34MOS I went with

Forward Controls Plate, Steiner MPS and Dawson back ups.

Here’s 10 rounds at 25 yards right after setting it up.

Nice rig, mongo. Do you like the Steiner more than your 509t?

I'm happy with my SCS.  I also have a 507 comp and a few 507/407s.  The SCS is nice because it's easy... No plates needed, no new sights needed for co witness, it's a simple and affordable way to get a dot on your gun.

However, I do think there are other "better" choices (depending on what you value).  With the SCS you don't get many choices, you get green, you get fewer dot size/reticle choices and you don't get to control the brightness.

If you want to make a larger investment to take advantage of a larger window or more reticle choices, skip the SCS.  If you don't want to make a large investment in new iron sights and a plate, and don't care about maximizing window size, the SCS will be great for you.

It's a 34. Go with a big window with a FCD plate.

That’s the route I’m taking. I got a plate from CNC Pros and I’ll use a 507 comp.

On my G34 Gen5 MOS, I went this route.

VORTEX RAZOR 3 MOA
GLOCK Optic Plate 03
AMERIGLO GL-527 7XL Tall Black serrated .450 FRONT, Flat Black .554 REAR

Of course, everyone has their own choice of optics and plates. Just make sure that you know the height you will need for iron sights before you order them. You want to make sure they will clear the base of the optic (w/plate).

Factory plate is fine.  It is just installation sensitive.

I have a 507Comp on my 34, and I like it.

I like the MPS and it’s proven to be a solid optic.

I’m surprised they are not more popular.

I have a couple guns with 509T and a couple with MPS. Admittedly I shoot the 509T more and carry them for work.

Both do their jobs. I’ve also got a gun set up with an Acro P2 and a RMR-HD

The P2 is towards the bottom of my list while the RMR-HD is creeping towards the top.

Here’s my G17.5 milled by Jagerwerks for 509T doing some testing for my Depts dot qual course to establish times.
