I am about out of 178 ELD's and am wondering about switching to the 168s. I trust Hornady G7 data and it looks like they actually might be a better choice for the .308. I am not a competitor but do enjoy plinking at our 1400 yard Gong range. Maybe Rob01 can help me out? I have followed all your advice on the 175 and 178's. I have lots of WW, Federal and BH brass.

I have had good results to 1000 with the 168s from my 24" Satern barrel. IIRC I didnt need any more adjustments than I was already using

Yup can help with that. The 168 ELD-M is an excellent choice. You can get them going at 2700+ and they have a good BC as well. I have shot them to 1250 yards in matches and they performed great. I don't think you would be disappointed in the 168s compared to the 178s. That said though if you have a load in your rifle with the 178 then why change? |

I love them. I get 2610 from a 16 inch barrel amd IMR 4064. I pushed a less accurate load to 2750 same gun.
I have shot them to 1200 with great results. |

Thanks guys for prompt response.
I was thinking of switching because the 168's will probably shoot a little bit flatter and maybe have a bit less recoil. I dont know if 0.5 or 0.6 mil is worth the trouble of working up a new load though. The 175 and 178's have done well with Varget, RL-15 and CFE223. |

Load them about .020" off lands and I would start with your 178 load and should have a load within 30-50 rounds of testing. I only use Varget in my .308 and it was pretty easy to get a load with the 168s. You could always buy one box and give them a try. |

I am using 43.5 gr Varget now in WW cases. About 2640 fps in my 20 inch 1-10. |
