I'm not sure if this is the correct area but I've got a M1A question. I'm looking too buy a M1A and have been eyeing the Springfield Scout. Mainly will be a range toy and possibly a truck gun so I don't want a 22" barrel. Just trying to decide if the Springfield Scout's are good rifles or is a SOCOM or Tanker a better option?
Most people say the Scout is the best compromise. The SOCOM has a thick front sight that makes precision tough at longer ranges, can't speak to the Tanker.
SOCOM though isn't an easy swap to change the front sight... but the size is nice. I turned my SOCOM into a "tanker" a few years before it was released.
I’ve owned a SOCOM and own the Scout. Both are great rifles. I preferred the Scout, so that’s what I kept. If you want it for a truck gun, the SOCOM, with the 16inch barrel would be perfect.
I support World Peace......One carefully placed round at a time.
It's seems like I read somewhere about changing the front sight block on a Scout with the SOCOM and shortening your OAL without sacrificing barrel length 🤷
If I throw a rifle in the truck for a ride, it's usually a 22" M14 or M1A. That having been said, the Scout sounds like the best fit for your requirement. They're all fun rifles.
