I looped a piece of 550 cord on the battery pack which can be removed using the NVG mount button. It was like the light was made for a helmet! Great idea, think I'm gonna try it |

Actually they are bump and impact rated above any skateboard type helmets. I do not have the actual spec with me, but we are on the process of getting it form the manufacturer. The specs are set from Mil requirements. Hope this helps. Vic |

Im still in the thought process of it what to get and where to get it. |

I'm still in the thought process of it what to get and where to get it. I wouldn't discount using one. I used to have a half pipe in my back yard and whacked my head more than once. This was the early 90s' and I'm sure the helmet technology has come a long way since then. If your looking to run anything other than ballistic I don't know that you would need "mil spec". I bought my Bell Raction at Sports Authority. Vic does have some nice stuff though! |

Those of you with PT helmets and PVS7/14's... I'm not seeing any counterweights, and mine is extremely front heavy and hard to keep stable. I find the helmet sliding a bit during use and making the pvs dip forward. Any tips?

You can use the OPS kit, but you have to enlarge the holes of the PT Alpha a bit for the new screws and add a few washers. The PT folks are working on a screw kit for the OPS system, no ETA just yet. Either way, a simple modification. Hope this helps. Vic |

I picked up a ACH helmet, but it's a color that doesn't fit in well with the rest of my gear. Can you just spraypaint these things, or is there a preferable way of doing it to modify the color?

Vic Scheib, but I knew who you were talking about. Schwab is the money guy... I liked it, too, but it appears they are no longer in business. Am I wrong? From the link : Effective July 16, 2010, Earl Scheib, Inc. has ceased operations nationwide. Each store is now independently owned and operated by a person unaffiliated with Earl Scheib, Inc. Based on this change, customer warranties of Earl Scheib, Inc. will no longer be able to be honored at these stores or by Earl Scheib, Inc. We truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, however we believe the independent owners and operators will continue to provide the same great service that Earl Scheib, Inc. offered for almost 80 years. |

That be a NV clip on compass and that little pad at the top (er bottom when flipped down) is the pressure pad. These have since been halted for production with error induced readings because of the magnetic NV monocular cut off switch interfering with the compass readings. It does not do this on all the units, but the military complained enough though. Hope this helps. Vic |

Just as easy to keep a small compass in your pocket or vest if needed IMHO. |

The other thing was it was a expensive throw away with the real ability to change batteries. One could have jury rigged a replacement...Insight (I think) who STILL molds most all PVS-14 body housings made a killing on this and other NV gear. It's know wonder L3 paid in excess of 600 MILLION for their buy of them! |
