PRESS RELEASE: Remington to Sever Sponsorship Ties with Jim Zumbo
Madison, North Carolina – As a result of comments made by Mr. Jim Zumbo in recent postings on his blog site, Remington Arms Company, Inc., has severed all sponsorship ties with Mr. Zumbo effective immediately. While Mr. Zumbo is entitled to his opinions and has the constitutional right to freely express those opinions, these comments are solely his, and do not reflect the views of Remington.
“Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars defending our Second Amendment rights to privately own and possess firearms and we will continue to vigorously fight to protect these rights,” commented Tommy Millner, Remington’s CEO and President. “As hunters and shooters of all interest levels, we should strive to utilize this unfortunate occurrence to unite as a whole in support of our Second Amendment rights.”
We regret having to terminate our long-standing relationship with Mr. Zumbo, who is a well-respected writer and life-long hunter.
PRESS RELEASEETA: Background from Outdoor Life Blog (which has now been deleted):

Jim Zumbo:
Assault Rifles For Hunters?
As I write this, I'm hunting coyotes in southeastern Wyoming with Eddie Stevenson, PR Manager for Remington Arms, Greg Dennison, who is senior research engineer for Remington, and several writers. We're testing Remington's brand new .17 cal Spitfire bullet on coyotes.
I must be living in a vacuum. The guides on our hunt tell me that the use of AR and AK rifles have a rapidly growing following among hunters, especially prairie dog hunters. I had no clue. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone using one of these firearms.
I call them "assault" rifles, which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them "terrorist" rifles. They tell me that some companies are producing assault rifles that are "tackdrivers."
Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our "sporting firearms."
This really has me concerned. As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods. |
pwned
i just read it on the front page of their website.

This is a perfect example of how we as believers in our Second Amendment rights have defended ourselves without firing a single shot.
United We Stand, Divided We Fall.
I have newfound respect for Remington.

Amazing how he has ruined his reputation and career in a mere few minutes by typing that blog. The blog is now taken down at outdoorlife. Kind of sad in one way that he ruined his career, but at the same time he turned his back on us by calling our firearms terrorist weapons.
That's what he gets.

Now I have to buy another rifle from Remington...

Like I needed an excuse

I also have a new respect for Remington!!
OLE ZUMBO fucked up
Good for Remington, I guess I will have to go out and buy a couple of boxes of Remington UMC .223 ammo to support them in supporting us!!!
Okay I missed something. What was Zumbo saying?
ETA Got it.
www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=548211
There are about a million threads in the "general" section on the subject right now. Take a look there. Basically he said AR15's are terrorist weapons and not sporting arms.
is there anywhere we can send email or snail mail to tell remington we support them?
Cool.

He said real hunters should start buying fewer rifles with scary banana mags and more bolt action sporting rifles in non-military calibers like .233 WSSSM.
In other words, we all need to pool our hysteria to help define "sporting purposes".

I detect a little Ronnie Barrett in that response. A newfound respect for an old name hope Remington get's some benefit for putting their money where their mouth is.
I am damned proud of Remington...They did the right thing by getting rid of this jerk, I also have a newfound respect for Remington, and at least will support them buy buying their ammo, cases for reloading. (I've already got 3 870's) Way to go Remington!!!! Maybe Zumbo can get a job for Gun Test......
Excuse me while I see what Remington products I can use.
Right off the bat, 700 action, brass, bullets, primers and theres clothing too.
Danny

<<<Long time Remington supporter...continues.

I own more than my share of Remingtons and will buy more. Maybe a AR15 from Remington is in the works?
I would buy one

+1 For Remington

Thank you Remington for your comments!

zumbo:-1

Good for Remington!!!!

I should run out tomorrow and buy 5 or 6 of their products.
My next firearm will be a Remington!
Remington did the right thing.
They stand for the 2nd Amendment, just like all hunters, target shooters etc.. should.
United we stand.
I guess Mr.Zumbo with his elitist views,doesn't.
Well too bad.I guess there's another new spokesperson for the Libtards and the silly fucks over at the Brady Group.

Yep, I saw a must have tactical 870 today in Olive Green. The first one I've ever seen in that color scheme.
I'm glad to see Remington stepped up and did the right thing.
I was thinking of buying a Savage, but now I'll get either a Remington PSS or LTR later this year.
Thanks Remington!
I think I need another Remington 700 after reading this.
Good on ya, Big Green.
My next centerfire rifle will be a remington. I just wish they made an AR-15.
Impressive to say the least! In this day and age with the legalities involved in dumping a business relationship literally overnight, Remington is well deserving of the positive response it's recieving from the AR community concerning this Idiot. Makes me proud of the Remington products I own, and the ones to come.
Way to go Remington. You just sold another shotgun
Thank you Remington for setting an example for the industry!
Remmy rules!!!
Well I guess I feel different then everyone else. I am done with Remington. They may have cut ties but the fact their PR guy was with him as he wrote that garbage is a little too convenient. Working in the corporate world myself as an exec and working in a department that is constantly having every little thing examined by PR I find it difficult to buy they were utterly clueless about the article. Any of you who work around PR types know that they are the most sensitive PC clowns in the world and if ours wasn't so I hot I wouldn't tolerate her :)
Zumbo + Remington staff on a hunting trip that had AR15s in the area. Next thing you know Zumbo is writing an article about how Remington's chief competitor in the varmint hunting world is now a terrorist gun. I can guarantee you if Remington was mentioned in that article their PR guy gave it a once over and didn't ask him to kill it. From what I hear varmint hunting is being taken over so to speak by our incredibly accurate AR15s and bolt action rifles are suffering.
Believe me I love my Remingtons but it all stinks to high hell to me. No one will get me to believe that Remington was mentioned in a blog with the PR guy sitting there and he didn't read it. Sorry doesn't happen like that.
Maybe I am wrong and if I am my lack of dollars going to Remington will not be felt by them at all. But I'll not be jumping on the warm and fuzzy Remington band wagon anytime soon. I take my 2nd amendment rights seriously as all of you do I am sure and until I hear a little bit more from them than that we let Zumbo go thing I ain't buying it.
That article can still do deep damage to our gun rights I'd prefer to hear a bit more about PRs involvement with the blog. As it stands I am 95% sure that PR approved that article at the worst and Remington at least sponsored the hunting trip that had him notice the AR15s.
Do you REALLY think he magically just found out ARs are used to hunt varmints? Do you REALLY buy that? Come on now folks. Does anyone think if no one had noticed the article and taken exception Remington would have fired him? In other words do you think they fired him for potentially harming our rights or fired him because he got caught?
Well, I for one would like to thank Mr. Zumbo. Every cause needs its Benedict Arnold or its Judas. One traitor has a way of uniting many. Now if only all of those here on ARFCOM would stop bickering back and forth, put aside our differences, (JBT, COP, .GOV, Civilian, trash man, ditch digger, Libertarian, Gay, Straight, Republican, Democrat, Survivalist, Paranoid, Regular Joe Public, Lawyer, whatever the hell you are or believe in) and unify ourselves and put as much energy into fighting for our rights. We all have come to this forum because we share a common interest and a common belief. We should stop picking at one another, because it's what the opposition wants.
Wasn't it in Sun Tzu's Art of War that describes the best way to take land is to turn neighbors against one another and then come in as the great moderator, of sorts? Keep the fools fighting, that sort of thing. Well, so long as we bitch at each other, we are no better than Zumbo. Why focus so much energy against each other. We should thank Zumbo for exposing himself and others. We should support those who acted on this information and did the right thing. But most importantly, this lesson should be one of solidarity for the rest of us. In the ten million other Zumbo threads, there's a lot of bickering back and forth. Put that energy into something positive. Put it into action. Something proactive.
So many people complain about the laws we have but do not vote. Not only the act of not voting, but not getting out there and trying to convert people, help others see what we see. My better half was once anti-gun. Not to the point of voting, just that she had a fear of them and didn't understand the need for anything other than hunting rifles, being from Alaska and all. That is, until she and I met. Now, she sees more and more the lies perpetuated by the anti-gunners, the fact that they shield people from the truth, from statistics like the UK's violent crime rate more than tripling since their big gun ban in 97. This kind of information is not shared. It is our responsibility to do so.
We should be banding together, hitting the streets, organizing field trips for younger people, educating them on our own time, sharing information with people, talking to the public, reaching out to bring to light what we already know and have the facts to support. We will never accomplish our goals and retain our rights if we allow events like the ones spawned from the words of Zumbo to turn into rabid dogs and turn our gnashing teeth on one another like hungry wolves. We are better than that. Are we not?
This blow dealt to us by Mr. Zumbo could instead be used to generate a lot of good action for our cause... if only we let it.
Just my .02
On another note, think it's time I buy a 700.
[cheers]
[Nelson Muntz] HA HA! [/Nelson Muntz]
Outstanding! Good to see at least one company doing the right thing. Remington just regained my business.
I am showing my support of Remington. I just bought 2000 .223 rounds from Reminton and plan on buying another 2000 as soon as possible.
This post is a major DUPE and the original poster should be permabandeded.
Edit: Never mind.

Im sure he would have had a shit fit if anyone called a scoped hunting rifle a "SNIPER RIFLE"or a hunting shotgun a "DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE"hunters think their weapons cant get labeled..think again..and by his statement their in lies the problem among gun owners...LABELING eachother defeats the purpose of preserving our rights.
The 2cnd ammendment is not about "SPORTING"...and where the civilan populace is considered the militia and if you were called for service you were expected to report with a weapon, ammunition and equipment in common use at the time it seems we who love military style weapons could make the argument that those firearms are the only ones protected by the 2cnd ammendment...with that said most firearms at some point have served in military service starting life as a private sector design and markedted to civilians before adopted by the military like the 1928 thompson...1873 winchester and single action army pistol come to mind also.
Just about every firearm design has come from the civilian private sector before being adopted by the service. And lets not forget King George the 3rd who labeled rifled muskets used by the colonists as "Assault rifles"I guess those should be banned too.I say good ridance to Mumbo Zumbo..the shooting community is better off without him...maybe he can get a job with the Bradys.

Zumbowned!!!!
I have a M1A and 1911 project to finish, but after that a remington firearm will be my first priority.
SHOW SUPPORT TO THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT YOU!!!
Remington will not only continue to get my business but I will increase my firearms and ammunition purchases from them in the near future.

If Remington is so PRO Black Rifle then how com the don't sell there AR10 to the PUBLIC! Action speak louder than work. Sell your AR10 to public and so us who side your on.

Are you talking about the DPMS .308? Someone already sells it.
Kudos to Remington. I must admit that their action has completely trashed my purchasing plans for the year.
I hadn’t planned on buying any Remingtons this year, but now I’ll have to get another 700 and 870.

They had a AR10 at shotshow last year but it LEO and GOVERMENT only. Don't know if they make it but there name is one the side. Thanks Remington for the press release but. My point is they are a very PC company. Ruger acts the same way. If I am wrong tell me. Like S&W not selling guns with nights sights on there pistol to the public.
Looks like Zumbo will be looking for a new job and rightfully so.
Lucky for him the bathrooms need cleaning at his local Micky D's.
Good luck in your new career Zumbo, hope you will be happy cleaning toilets, hopefully you will be able to get that right at least.
I was ok with Remington's press release until... that damn last sentence.
"We regret having to terminate our long-standing relationship with Mr. Zumbo, who is a well-respected writer and life-long hunter."
"We regret having to terminate..."? To hell with that. If anything, Remington should regret their mistake in associating with such a vile elitist.
"...who is a well-respected..." Was maybe, not an "is" in my estimation.
In their retreat, there is absolutely no reason for Remington to kiss Zumbo's ass. I'll not be too quick to give Remington my future business.
How can I contact Remington to express me pleasure in their recent decision, as well as to let them know I plan to increase my purchases of Remington products ?
I gave their site a once-over and didn't see a "contact" link immediately available.
