 Canon T3?

The wife wants an entry level DSLR for Christmas.

We have been trying to research as much as possible, and she is leaning towards the Canon T3.

The T2i and the T3i are a little too high for our budget, so is the T3 a good entry level camera?

We found a bundle for $498.00 from Walmart with a case and a tripod.

LINK

Is this GTG?

Thanks

I was looking at them for the great price. Some say that due to the lightness of it, that long heavy lens are hard to use. Price is right.

FYI: Value bundles tend to be not good values since most of the addons are cheap or junk.

I'd strongly recommend you expand your budget a little and get something like this. Paying just a little bit more will get you significantly more for your money.

The regular price of the Camera is $499 at Walmart, best buy, amazon, etc. So I figured even if the extras are junk then I am still only paying retail for the camera.

I do have access to a number of Canon lenses so I was looking to get a Canon, but I will look into the d3100. I might be able to swing for a d3100 if I can convince the wife to be patient. She wants to order it tomorrow so she can have it for the weekend.

Thanks for the help.

ETA: Ordering the T2i tomorrow. Found a good price on the kit, and we scraped a few more pennies together.

Thanks everyone

You can't go wrong with that set up as an entry level system. But if she gets hooked, look out. Next will be L lenses, full chip body, a nice 580 EXII strobe.....

Been there, done that!

I just bought my gf a Canon T3 for Christmas on Cyber Monday for $449. I went on DealExtreme and ordered her an SD card, UV filter, extra battery and remote as well...

I looked at the online reviews; you have to realize that camera junkies make black rifle fans look sane They REALLY nitpick stuff
My best friend is a web devolper/print guy; I asked him what he thought about the T3 which replaces the Rebel XS. He said:

She'll love it; most of my entire gallery and all my work in school was done on an XS w/ the kit lens Don't get hung up on the details, that camera is more than she will ever want or need for some time.

So I ordered it, and now I started to get into taking pictures myself. In fact I took some pretty cool ones yesterday; on my phone

HTC Thunderbolt; fucked w/ all the settings till I got the colors right

ETA: here is my feeble attempt at an HDR picture from a single image:

For every lens that she buys I will order a new lower.

ETA: I guess I will admit it... I'm partially buying this for myself. I have a 14mp point and shoot camera that I currently take my gun pictures with. I would love to get into actual photography to take awesome pictures of my weapons

You could always get the Canon T3 Body only with a 50mm 1.8 lens and a flash

OR

you could get a T1i refurb body from canon:
Canon Refurb T1i
with a 50 1.8 lens or even the kit lens if you want.

She still wins!
Go price some high end L series glass. You better make it a complete rifle for each lens!

Well since she is getting the T2i as her christmas gift, I got a ruger 10 22, a stag 6.8 spc barrel assembly for a future build, and I am ordering an aimpoint pro on friday.

I think I win this round

after looking at the specs, and the reviews thats what I determined as well. I also figured that with continued use that flip out screen would break

You could buy complete RIFLES for the cost of some lenses...including an Aimpoint.

Need advice on a macro lens.

She would like to try portraits and things like that. I did a quick search on amazon, and to be honest I had no idea what I was looking for.

P.S. I would like to spend around $550 on this so I can get a glock.

thanks!

I've been playing with the camera all morning. Looks like there is a steep learning curve.
