I need a new desktop badly.

My old PC is pathetically slow. I need something that will handle the following tasks:

Quickbooks Pro. I use this desktop occasionally for business purposes. Not 8 hours a day, but a few hours a week.
Office productivity.
DVD ripping (DVDFab) and conversion (Handbrake).
Running a media server (PlayOn) that will provide streaming video to my Roku, Wii, etc. without hiccuping.

I'm thinking I need at least Windows 7 Professional to guarantee that I can run my old XP software...

i5 vs. i7, I'm not sure... will an i5 work for me?

Any recommendations? Build specs? Deals I should jump on?

I've got an i5 and it rips and converts DVDs no problem. I don't imagine Quickbooks is that resource-intensive?

I don't think it's that bad... It's mostly the multimedia streaming I'm concerned about... would like to be able to stream while I'm working on other things.

I would think an i5 should be plenty to do all that, probably all at the same time. I've never tried to run anything like PlayOn though. I just checked the minimum requirements for it, if a pentium 4 is the minimum, an i5 should run it smoothly.

I5 would do you fine.
