Love or hate the BCS (I fall into the hate camp, FWIW, we need a playoff system in college football ), a new National Championship Team will be crowned next Monday night.

SEC champion AUBURN will face PAC-10 champion OREGON next Monday night in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, AZ for the BCS Title.

Anyone have any predictions, gripes, trash talk, or other general thoughts about the game?

(NOTE: This is in the Sports Talk forum for a reason –– general football/sports haters need not post anything at all.)

I was talking with a co-worker this morning and they mentioned a Bob Davie comment they'd heard. Davie likes Oregon because of what the team went through last year in the Rose Bowl. In short, "they've been here before" vs. Auburn's relative lack of experience on the BCS stage. An interesting theory that I had not considered.

I'm also curious to see what's going on with the academic eligibility rumors swirling around Auburn right now.

I think that either team could win the game, and I prefer that the teams be intact when they meet. Either team losing a starter or several for any reason could really diminish the quality of the game.

I'm rooting for Oregon, in part because I'm a part-time Ducks fan and in part because somebody has to put a stop to the SEC's recent dominance and this year would be as good as any.

I agree. I'd like to see Auburn win, but what I really want to see is a good football game.

What is the over/under?

It has to be close to 90 points.

Bodog has the O/U at 74 with Auburn a 3-point favorite.

It appears that 74 is the consensus O/U - I can't find anyone with anything other than 74.

Some sites have Auburn -2.5 instead of -3.

I am so let down every year after all the hype of "this should be a great bowl game" only to see a blowout by the end odf the first quarter.

There are of course a few exceptions every year, but 2-3 good, close, bowl games mixed in with a dozen+ shitty ones (that were supposed to be "close, good, games") does not make for fun/entertaining sports.

I watch/follow college football the enitire regular season, until this bullshit BCS popularity contest of picking who they want to compete for the national title is over, I have no interest in watching the "post season".

Really?

This year's Rose Bowl was excellent and very competitive. The Texas/USC title game was incredible. There have been some blowouts, but if the BCS has given us anything it's that we get generally good matchups at the end of the year.

The OSU/Arkansas game last night is a great example –– it ended up as a classic nail-biter at the end.

Both teams made major missteps, but it still made for a dramatic and enjoyable game.

The Alabama/Michigan St. game, not so much... even though I enjoyed it, personally.

I honestly look for the NC game to be close this year. I hope Auburn will win, of course, but I don't expect a blowout by any means.

FWIW, the Alabama/MSU game was not a BCS matchup.

Going back over the years, I can recall quite a few competitive games - OSU/Miami, Oklahoma/Boise, USC/Texas, and PSU/FSU (3OT Orange Bowl) were all great games. Yes, there have been a few blowouts as well - but even if you limit it to strictly title games I think you'll see that most are competitive games. They may not all come down to the final play, but they're not often over in the first half.

Good point, that didn't even cross my mind.

(I loathe the BCS so much, I probably tend to just lump all the Bowls together these days... )

I am really excited about this game. The teams are so similar - they've both come from behind, they both have ridiculous second half and fourth quarter defensive stats, they both score practically at will. I am expecting an excellent game.

Go Ducks!

Exciting game!

Congrats to AUBURN UNIVERSITY on their 1st BCS National Championship, and the SEC on their 5th in a row!

HELL of a game!

Field was a piece of junk first half. People sliding everywhere, three interceptions nearly back to back.

Freaking goal line stands by both teams.

Play of the game by Dyer to set up the win.

The best BCS NC I've seen probably.

GO SEC!
