Air Force Security Forces deployments?
I'm curious, when y'all ain't stuck on runways guarding aircraft what other missions do you do? How often do you actually get to be outside the wire? I'm curious because I always hear about you guys being attached to Army units but I have yet to actually see it Airmen with Soldiers unless they are CCT or JTAC. On that note, how do you get assigned to Army units when you do?
Look up battlefield Airmen. SF does resource protection, law enforcement, military working dogs, airborne deployment, close precision engagement, anti-terrorism/force protection, personal security detachment, foreign forces training, nuclear security, special operations security, etc.
The reason I ask is because I'm going Active Duty Army to Air Force Reserve and Security Forces is what they had open, unfortunately the AFSC I wanted wasn't. So how likely is it that I can avoid pulling guard on an overpriced and over funded aircraft? I like to be out and about. I want to be able to pretty much any of what you said, how likely is it that I could be thrown into something like that?
It depends. I was in Iraq doing ASR patrols and convoy security on Detainee Air Transfers (lovingly known as Con Air). This was in 2008-2009.
Some from my unit were/are doing ECP in Balad.
Haiti 2010 it was ECP/airfield security. There were patrols on the airfield, but we didn't really do anything outside of the airport. I was able to drive around wonderful Port-au-Prince. A traffic experience, to say the least.
As for for Afghanistan, I've never been, but a buddy of mine did TSE.

You forgot the part about endless powerpoint slides...
A guy on my shift is SF in the Air Force reserve and is deploying to Saudi Arabia.
They wrote me a ticket once for going 17mph at 2am on the perimeter fence. I was driving to work so I could get in my scout helicopter and go shoot bad people doing bad things.
When I didnt have my North Carolina Drivers License, the fat bastard in his BlackHawk tactical vest told me "Oooo strike one". He told me I was lucky in that I would only get a ticket. Apparently under previous rules my vehicle would have been towed.
Im sure when he goes home people buy him beers for serving his country.
Thats Air Force Security at work. Those 4 month deployments gotta be hell on the relationships.

There's douche bags in every branch, I've met MP's, Infantrymen, supply clerks in the Army and still haven't deployed act the same way. If you have nothing to contribute but flame then I ask you to go away. I don't think all MP's are bastards even when they have treated me like shit.
Back in 2008 we did convoy security and security patrols for high ranking idiots who want to say "i've been outside the wire". Now?....im stuck at eskan village doing pretty much nothing but checking ids. So we have both ends of the spectrum. bucca? shitty place fun mission. Eskan awesome base shit mission.
at least I have a/c though lol
Oh lets see, average four hours sleep every day for six months, shitty food that gives you the shits, moronic leadership, dickhead base populace that has to take every opportunity to fuck with you, local nationals that take even more chances to fuck with you, mix in IDF, sniper fire, and the First Sgt council that has to fuck with you constantly to ensure your're within standards at all times, God forbid your PT shirt comes untucked while your're in the middle of a set on the bench press.
Whatever cool guy stuff you get to do depends entirely on what your tasking is set down as before you even leave the country. However the majority of what we do is quite mundane.

I call that Tactical Tourism.
I remember taking base leadership on off base patrols in Kuwait and Kyrgyzstan. Those fucking goofballs all had IBA and kevlars on the whole time. All I wore was my web gear. It was always funny to watch these guys look all jittery for the first hour and once they saw nothing would happen then the whole thing seemed like a day trip to them. Also they learned how goddamn boring our job was.
I do have to hand it to the base commander on my first "deployment" to Kyrgyzstan, he was a C130 pilot when he wasnt the Wing King. He would take missions for the C130 guys could get some extra down time. He would often fly night drops after he worked all day. He even came out and worked posts with us.
