Can we possibly buy any plane without fucking it up?

The USAF aircraft situation is becoming laughable. We are retiring aircraft without replacements. Seeing how the acquisition process has been run, there is going to be some aircraft shortages at some point. We can't even come up with a tanker. I fail to see what is so difficult about putting a boom on an airplane. Here's to hoping our -135s, F-15/16s, and B-52s hold out...

The commander of Transcom stopped by our unit over one drill and had a session for anyone that was interested in stopping by and listening. He mentioned that when the KC-135 is slated to be retired in 2050 it would be like going out today and seeing a flight line full of Wright Fliers.

Rent seeking is the term to describe the act of attempting to achieve politically what cannot be achieved in the marketplace. I suggest that HB builds a better aircraft and tries again.

Not too surprising. I never saw this as a high priority program. Money is just getting too tight.

Plus AF procurement couldn't bid a toliet paper contract without screwing up.

Any light strike/recon FW asset would have been more than what the Army has got, right now.

The USAF cannot be blamed for the LAAR. Its obvious that Army support is a mission they really don't want to do, but its the only game in town.

The Army needs to commit to the LAAR as a OH58 replacement, but the Army Aviation community refuses to believe that the 58 and 64 are anything but invulnerable and survivalable in MCO. They aren't.

In 2 years when Afghanistan goes fully to shit again, we'll have to bomb them as part of an air campaign anyhow. Saves the trouble.

The Super Taco isn't any better than the Hawker product and in the longer term it's going to be significantly more expensive. However i'm sure the international kickbacks were larger too. If the Airforce were 100% genuinely interested in performance it would be buying a Pc-21 derivative with the hawker weapons suite. But it's obviously not.
