I cut a hole in my guitar today...sound port

I've wanted to do this for over a year...so today I put blue tape on my guitar, made an oval shape, traced it, cut out 95% of it with a trim router, finished with a small drum sander in an air drill....Little hand sanding, black sharpie to match the trim, two coats of clear fingernail polish...

Sound Port! Sound is coming at me now...pehaps a little deeper tone, I'm pleased and glad I didn't fuck it up...I did this to my beater git but have not ruled out doing it on my higher end gits...

Looks good. Cool that you had the opportunity to hear the guitar before and after you added the sound port.

I had no idea that people were doing such things to acoustic guitars until I saw your post. I did a little research before posting, and now I'm intrigued!

Yes...it is more common now than years ago and many luthiers are making it an option on new builds...lots of info on the interwebs about sound ports...

I have a 60% hearing loss in both ears and do not like to wear my hearing aids all of the time...the sound hole may be a big plus for me.

Sweet! I like sound ports on acoustic guitars but the thought of cutting into my Taylors is pretty scary. I might have a pro do it though.

I hear ya...The guitar pictured is my beater Yamaha FG720S...I bought it used on CL for $140 (retails for $350) and are great guitars for the money...I can't see myself doing this to my Larrivee L03R

I appreciate the compliment...been woodworking since age 13...now 49. Still a little hairy cutting a hole in guitar...
