This morning I built my very first cigar box guitar. It ain't gonna win any beauty contests, but it sounds pretty good, and it's not going to fall apart or anything.

Anyone else building their own instruments?

I've been known to dabble in wood butchery...

Group shot of all the ones I've built for myself over the years. I've built others but they're with their owners.

You are a hair more advanced than I am....

I'm thinking the next one will be a diddly bow. I'm a bit more into the "looks like it was made for less than $10 cause it was" aesthetic.

I built my first complete instrument in 1985 and my first complete guitar in 1987. That guitar in some respects
is still the best I ever made. (The blue SG on the couch) It has the most perfect neck for my tastes that I've ever
laid hands on.

I appreciate ALL instruments. Including cigar box guitars. I appreciate things that are on the same path I've taken,
and appreciate things that are NOT on my path, too.

There's plenty of room for creativity and I always like to see it.

My own builder's tastes stay pretty traditional, very much in the Gibson school of thought, but with heavy
Paul Reed Smith influence. And PRS was heavily influenced by Gibson, but added a tiny bit of Fender thought
into his designs. (Not enough to do any harm, fortunately. )
