im curious how do all of you save your place in a book ?
Im curious how do all of you save your place in a book ? Im starting the Game of Thrones series and would really to prefer not dogging the corners like I usually do. What does everyone else usually do to save a place in a book ?
My NookColor remembers for me
Just a scrap piece of paper sticking out of the old book works for me.
550 cord with the guts pulled out and a loop
I just remember the page number. It works most of the time!
I just tear out the page after I read it.
Hey, it works.
I have a drawer full of dedicated bookmarks my GF has bought, but I usually just use whatever scrap of paper I have within reach.
paperback: dog ear the page
hardback, book mark. Either improvised or a store bought one.
a kitten... I just use a kitten to mark the page. Sometimes I have to use several books stacked on top to keep the kitten in place.
Sometimes I even use an Oyster Po'boy sandwich. That way I can smell where the book is.
I have used a Saturn V rocket as a bookmark in the past, but they are becoming harder to get.
I was thinking of using a washing machine, but I only have one and I usually have two or three books going at one time.
a scrap piece of paper
its not rocket science

Hmm, if only someone would create something to mark a place in a book. They could call it a bookmark. People could probably even make their own out of scrap paper. Too bad technology hasn't advanced that far yet.
I use a one dollar bill, have for years.
Whatever's handy.
After a trip to Las Vegas, I've used those smutty incall 'entertainer' cards that are everywhere.
I've used a pic of a girlfriend.
Atlas Shrugged got a dollar bill - it only seemed fitting.
The receipt from the bookstore where it was purchased.
Any random, small piece of paper that was around when I needed it.
I've tried the fancy bookmarks - the metal ones that bend back over the spine are just annoying, as are pretty much any that don't conform to the bend of the pages.
I never dog-ear a page from a book. It's just disrepectful to intentionally damage a durable item.

I've always dog-eared (unless it's borrowed) and the corners straighten themselves with time.
I don't like bookmarking, I just finish them in one sitting.
Only savages dog-ear.
Piece of paper
book mark
receipt
dollar bill
piece of junk mail, post card, etc.
When I want to stop reading I look at what page I'm on.

Buy a roll of satin ribbon at Hobby Lobby. Cut a strip off when needed. Makes a nice bookmark, and looks classier than pieces of paper sticking out of your books.

Over the past few years I've found myself using the reciept from where I bought the book.
On a side note....if you're starting Game of Thrones you probably won't need a bookmark! You'll be hard pressed to put it down! LOL!
i dont stop till i am done, i dont want to mess the pages.
Piece of buttwipe, preferrably unused. It's easy to grab from where I do most of my reading.
Some of these responses are great. My nook saves my spot for me, but if I'm reading a real book I either use an old Derek Jeter baseball card, or a Dana Scully X-Files book mark.
Bookmark or scrap of paper.

Am I off that I thought this was hilarious?
considering I usually read a few books at a time, I just use my other book as a bookmark.
3x5 index card.
My daughter pulls out the bookmark I usually use, to show me it is my son.
I've been using a USMC recruitment card as a bookmark for the past 5 years. I've yet to call the number on it.
My kindle does it for me. On a real book just use a piece of scrap paper laying around like a receipt or something.
business cards
Business cards work great, as does any piece of scrap paper within reach.
For the most part I make note of what page/chapter I'm on.
Other times, if the book is hardcover, I use the books cover flaps to keep place.
Or the subscription card inserts from any of the magazines I subscribe to.
Or just about anything else that's small and flat that fits.
Toilet paper. I remove it before I sell the book to the local independent bookstore.
old concert tickets, club promo cards, business cards, stickers, whatever i find laying around
Folded post-it notes (so the sticky side is not facing out) seem to be my bookmark most of the time. Otherwise, it's just any scrap of paper lying around, like a receipt or such.
I use one of my stock pile of hotel key cards.
Way back when I was pulling duty in Alaska....
During the really boring part of the watch, I would sneak into the CO's office, find the book that he was reading in his attached rest room and move his bookmark.

you sound like my english major wife.... she hates that I do that
I fold everything over.... books look better when they've been read....
(no, I won't dog ear my old books....)
I usually fold the page corner but ever since I got my Nook I can't figure how how to bend the corners.

I tear off the pages that I've read. Never get lost.
Dog ear with regular books.
ipad has a bookmark tab.
The one with the built in LED light always looked interesting. Just like the "liquid" one from thinkgeek.com.
Of course, you could just stop being a p*@#y and read the whole damn book at once like a man. That's the ARFCOM way.
dog ear the page
My business card.

I used to read comic books too.

I pause the audiobook in itunes.
If I'm outside I use what ever I can find. Blades of grass and tree leaves are plentiful.
Those annoying subscription post cards that fall out of magazines work well.
The book store receipt and the amazon invoice works well.
I have a cheap History Channel bookmark that I got in the mail. I also use one of my business cards that I have laying around.
On a really cheap mass market paperback I just bend the corner of the page down.
I use the receipt from the book store as my bookmark.
Bookmark, usually a magizine subcription insert that is laying on the floor or only of my daughters hello kitty, icarly, spong bob ones, LOL

I usually only read books from the library so I just use the receipt from there. That way I am always reminded of the due date and don't have to pay any late fees.

Any card i have laying around. Right now, my USPSA membership card is holding the place in The Art of War.
