Im curious how do all of you save your place in a book ? Im starting the Game of Thrones series and would really to prefer not dogging the corners like I usually do. What does everyone else usually do to save a place in a book ?

My NookColor remembers for me

Just a scrap piece of paper sticking out of the old book works for me.

I just remember the page number. It works most of the time!

I just tear out the page after I read it.
Hey, it works.

I have a drawer full of dedicated bookmarks my GF has bought, but I usually just use whatever scrap of paper I have within reach.

paperback: dog ear the page

hardback, book mark. Either improvised or a store bought one.

a kitten... I just use a kitten to mark the page. Sometimes I have to use several books stacked on top to keep the kitten in place.

Sometimes I even use an Oyster Po'boy sandwich. That way I can smell where the book is.

I have used a Saturn V rocket as a bookmark in the past, but they are becoming harder to get.

I was thinking of using a washing machine, but I only have one and I usually have two or three books going at one time.

its not rocket science

Hmm, if only someone would create something to mark a place in a book. They could call it a bookmark. People could probably even make their own out of scrap paper. Too bad technology hasn't advanced that far yet.

Whatever's handy.

After a trip to Las Vegas, I've used those smutty incall 'entertainer' cards that are everywhere.

I've used a pic of a girlfriend.

Atlas Shrugged got a dollar bill - it only seemed fitting.

The receipt from the bookstore where it was purchased.

Any random, small piece of paper that was around when I needed it.

I've tried the fancy bookmarks - the metal ones that bend back over the spine are just annoying, as are pretty much any that don't conform to the bend of the pages.

I never dog-ear a page from a book. It's just disrepectful to intentionally damage a durable item.

I've always dog-eared (unless it's borrowed) and the corners straighten themselves with time.

I don't like bookmarking, I just finish them in one sitting.

Buy a roll of satin ribbon at Hobby Lobby. Cut a strip off when needed. Makes a nice bookmark, and looks classier than pieces of paper sticking out of your books.

Over the past few years I've found myself using the reciept from where I bought the book.

On a side note....if you're starting Game of Thrones you probably won't need a bookmark! You'll be hard pressed to put it down! LOL!

Piece of buttwipe, preferrably unused. It's easy to grab from where I do most of my reading.

Some of these responses are great. My nook saves my spot for me, but if I'm reading a real book I either use an old Derek Jeter baseball card, or a Dana Scully X-Files book mark.

My kindle does it for me. On a real book just use a piece of scrap paper laying around like a receipt or something.

For the most part I make note of what page/chapter I'm on.

Other times, if the book is hardcover, I use the books cover flaps to keep place.
Or the subscription card inserts from any of the magazines I subscribe to.
Or just about anything else that's small and flat that fits.

Folded post-it notes (so the sticky side is not facing out) seem to be my bookmark most of the time. Otherwise, it's just any scrap of paper lying around, like a receipt or such.

Way back when I was pulling duty in Alaska....

During the really boring part of the watch, I would sneak into the CO's office, find the book that he was reading in his attached rest room and move his bookmark.

The one with the built in LED light always looked interesting. Just like the "liquid" one from thinkgeek.com.

Of course, you could just stop being a p*@#y and read the whole damn book at once like a man. That's the ARFCOM way.

If I'm outside I use what ever I can find. Blades of grass and tree leaves are plentiful.

Those annoying subscription post cards that fall out of magazines work well.

The book store receipt and the amazon invoice works well.

I have a cheap History Channel bookmark that I got in the mail. I also use one of my business cards that I have laying around.

On a really cheap mass market paperback I just bend the corner of the page down.

I usually only read books from the library so I just use the receipt from there. That way I am always reminded of the due date and don't have to pay any late fees.
