I'm looking for a breeder. Preferable near Charlotte, NC. I'm willing to travel 4-5 hours though.

The last breeder we used turned out to be a bad breeder. I'm finding lots of complaints about them now. So, now we are trying to do some research. Wondering if anyone here can recommend a breeder.

Thanks

What do you want the dog to do? I know several people in the lab and golden world.

He would be for a family pet. No showing or hunting. We are looking for the light colored goldens, male preferred.

With the last Golden(Jake) we purchased, he developed hip dysplasia at 18 months. I had left a few voicemails and emails for the breeder and she never returned my calls. Beginning of February this year, he developed Lymphoma(Cancer of Lymph Nodes), at eight years old. Again, I called and just got their machine. I left three voicemails and emailed her twice. I was not expecting an compensation, I just wanted to let her know, because reputable breeder want to know about health issue in order to help control hereditary diseases.

She did return my email this time. She said she was sorry, yadda, yadda, yadda. But, she does not remember my phone calls about the hip dysplasia. She said none of her goldens died of Lymphoma. I know that's a lie, because I have spoken to two people who's goldens had developed Lymphoma and died from it. Those people did notify the breeder. I think she answered my email about the cancer, because she knew it was a matter of time before Jake died and that I'd want another one from her.

It's Golden Creek Kennels in Relaigh/Durham, NC. They have lots of complaints of various dog forums, including the goldenretrieverforum.com.

Anyway, thanks for any leads to a responsible breeder.

I know its a out of your geographic "seeking" area but rebel creek golden retrievers comes VERY highly recommended....When I lost my golden to lymphoma at 5 years old my wife and I looked high and low for a reputable breeder. A well known local golden rescue (Yankee golden retriever) recommended rebel creek exclusively and told us that this is the ONLY breeder they would suggest. We contacted Karen and were blown away by the care and requirements she has for her puppy's.... Our Golden "Cody" is 5 years old now 100 lbs and happy and healthy, we still keep in contact with Karen and she is always excited to hear how Cody is doing, when we picked him up she actually teared up and kissed him goodby...thats when I knew we made the right choice..

Karen is also the breeder that wants to know EVERYTHING that goes on with her puppy's, she even makes you sign a legal document against breeding her puppys without her knowledge she always responds to our e mails and seems more than thrilled to hear about Cody...She strongly believes in raising the puppys right in her home so they have constant interaction with people until they go home with their new family...Honestly I can not say enough about her, This is my 3rd golden and I have also had 2 German shepherds and currently have one GSD as well as Cody, and Cody is without a doubt the happiest and friendliest dog I have ever had...If you want to know anything else don't hesitate to contact me, send me a message and I can shoot my number over to you so we can talk..

Check her out

Thanks for the suggestion. Being that they are in Canada, I can't visit the breeder. I like to check the location out first. But then again, I checked out the last breeder and they "looked" awesome and turned out to be crap.

Anyway, do you mind me asking what they charged for your pup? I've seen some places charging up to $3000.00, that's why I asked.

Those pics of your golden are beautiful!

She charged me $1500.00 for my pup (US Dollars)....If all else fails locally give her a call...you will not be sorry. She is not too far from me here in MA, just across the border from Buffalo NY, but you are considerably further south of me so I understand the distance is a problem...but would be a nice weekend trip!

Yeah, that's my spending limit, $1500.00. Shipping from her kennel would add about $225.00.

I found a highly recommended breeder today. I'm going to check out there operation soon........crescentgoldens.com. They charge $1500.00 too.

I was wrong...kinda.. I spoke with my wife last night and she told me he was $1200.00 but we had to pay some fees to get him back across the border into the US...so it totaled $1450.00...but he was actually $1200.00.. I am sure Karens prices must have gone up with everything else in the world though....

Good luck with the new breeder let me know how you make out, and if a new pup appears at you home you better be sending me some pictures!!!

I was going to suggest winding gap goldens but it looks like they got out of breeding. I had 2 dogs from them and both were EXCELLENT smartest dogs in the world.
