Recommendations on a Deep Fryer
So I was making fried potatoes in a pan tonight and they always stick real bad and I end up with way less than I start with. So I am thinking a deep fryer is in order.
Is Fry Daddy the way to go, or is there another brand that could serve me better?
Also show me what you are using if you would like.
And hello, this is my first time venturing in here.
I'm kinda looking for a new one also. Old one was just worn out timer quit.
I was looking at this type of unit.
I have the best one:
DON"T.

Thanks. I will check that one out.

Why not?
Big difference between the pan and the fryer.
With the pan you actually get fried potatoes...with the fryer you get french fries.
I've got a Fry Daddy and it's been great.
I've had a Rival for about 5 years. I like it, takes longer to heat up than I'd like but overall, it's pretty good.
Cast. Iron.
Like this:

The only way to cook fried potatoes is in a Cast Iron Skillet.
As for fryers, I have 4.
Fry Daddy, Presto, Rival and a King Cooker.
I used the Fry Daddy for years, and it did what I needed.
I was looking for something to leave at our Hunting Cabin, instead of packing everything back and forth.
Came across the Presto and Rival on Craigslist. Both were in great shape, and the Rival had never been used. got both for $20.
After using the Rival, it is not leaving the house. SO MUCH easier.
Cooks way faster than the Presto or the Fry Daddy.
Able to set temp for oil.
Able to cook much more at a time with the rival, also raise and lock basket to let excess oil drain.
Big Fish Fry, Crawfish Boil, ––- breakout King Cooker.
For all who have mentioned cast iron, I have been wanting to get back into cooking with it. Maybe this will give me some motivation. We did switch to a flat top stove last year and I am not sure they do well on those. I will have to pull out the stove manual and give it a check before doing anything that might hurt the surface.
I came here to post this. It works very very well. my gut proves it.

We use our cast iron on our glass stove all the time. There's nothing in our manual about not using it. We have the Kitchenaide glass stove.
Good luck.
I have an older, 1 basket version of the T-Fal. It does fine, its nice to not worry about temps. I don't use it as much as I did a few years ago.
