It's getting cold enough to ghetto lager in part of my basement. Mashing an Amber Lager right now.




Got to pick up 100 lbs of base malt Saturday.

Just past the hot break and 60 minute hops going in.

I can't lager until I get a chest freezer I'm jealous. Can you post pics of your setup? Maybe do a play by play for everyone with your camera?

What setup? I have different rooms in my basement with their own thermostats. One of them I keep cold for lagering (once it gets cold enough).

That's the "ghetto" part.

So what's the fermentation temperature and time like when doing a lager?

50 ish for primary, then the colder the better (providing it doesn't freeze) for as long as possible. I'm going to start my (real) Octoberfest soon.

Still waiting––impatiently––its down to 60* in my lagering area. I have a Vienna lager planned as my first lager this fall

But, my other area is 65* and I've got my second AG BIAB (a porter this time) planned for tomorrow.
