Well sold the AK and went H&K
Well sort of. Ill always like my AK's but I got a smoking deal on a PTR91 in 308. Sadly a original H&K is way out of my price range but I wanted to ask how good of a gun are the PTR's? Any tidbits you could give me as far as ammo brands not too shoot with it etc etc I'd be very thankful.
Cant pick it up for prob another week and a half as it's on layaway.
I edited the title thread since some folks think I was being serious I threw a AK in the trash can.

havent found anything my ptr wont eat,
thing is a pain to clean
gotta ask 7n6 how the ar got the label dirty
Nice but I hear the mags are super expensive
The new GI models can take tar sealed or surplus ammo without problems.

Yes, without any problems. Steel cased is no problem, the roller delayed system was designed with steel cased ammo in mind.
I bought one hundred G3 mags for $10000. shipped. Oops, did I put my decimal in the wrong place again?

They (PTR-91) can come HK profile (thin) or a "target" barrel which is considerably thicker (HBAR).
you done good

I have some I will sell you for 6 bucks a piece
I've always been intrigued by the ptrs. I'll be interested in how you like it compared to the fal.
You threw a gun in the trash? Where is the trash can?

Damn
That's a bargain. OP, jump on it!
Didn't you get a set of painted Rhodesian handguards awhile back? Be sure to install those for us.

The booklet says it's a heavy barrel.

Figure of speech bru figure of speech.
thing is a pain to clean
Naaaah, not hard at all. Bore and chamber and bolt as normal. Use a nylon bristled .410 brush with a patch wrapped on it to clean the flutes.
Disassembling the bolt is a chore, but that only needs done every 1,000 rounds or so? Maybe more. I did mine several years ago....
PTR's are good rifles.
I've had my 91 since the '70s (It was $389 new at Central Loan) and I used to pay upwards of $45 a piece for mags. I was shocked when I started seeing them for a buck. 93 mags are still an arm & a leg though.
BTW: One friend has a PTR that has been back twice and still won't run, and another has one that runs like my factory HK. So I'd try to test fire it if possible.

not claiming anything to the contrary,
but between my ar 10, m1a, fal and the ptr, the hk design is definitely the one that collects the most crap and time required to clean

Cleaning should be no problem for you. Your avatar indicates you are disrespectful to dirt.

Don't have an AR10, but for fun plinking I use my FALs most, HK for accuracy/long range prairie dog popping (have a PSG1 trigger in it) and the M1A I sold recently.

This thread reminds me that I have a large box of mags with your name on it.
The HK91 type rifles are nice, but man they kick like a mule!

Enjoy.

Yep, G3 w/ a happy switch will brutalize ya....
There's a vid floating around of me demonstrating such....

Like any clone, there are good ones and bad. Generally the bad ones can be fixed,
but you have to find somebody who knows what they're doing to do so.
As for ammo, they'll usually eat just about anything, but they're not kind to brass,
so reloading might be iffy...

Ah, yes, you are right.
I will swing by your house later this month.

Now Arfcom knows I dumpster dive. I hope Ed and Striker don't put this on page 1 of their Arfcom book.
Enjoy you PTR-91. They are fun guns. In college, my friends and I used to shoot a HK all the time. Good times.
Ergo fail to another ergo fail, and the PTR will cost you at least 50% more to shoot. Hope you don't expect to reload, 91s destroy brass.
If it is a earlier jld gun with a aletter befor serial number you can shoot any ammo . Ptr labeled guns had some issues with thompson made barrels and the chamber being to tight. Supposedly gi series fixed that. Great guns.
Bought an HK-91 for $500 brand new back when you could get this kind of stuff in New Jersey, good weapon but as said, it wasn't kind to brass at all and once you fired the last round the bolt was closed. Just something about hearing that "click" when expecting "boom" really bothered me and I sold rifle to friend for my $500. No rifle like that should close bolt after last round is fired and as nice as rifle was what they ask for them now days is way overpriced, just my $.02
Will

Herro american investor!
Can you see that I am serious?
I like my ptr, it is just my disrespect for dirt means I can't leave those flutes full of gunk, and SA surplus can dish it with awesomea power
Get a hk21 buffer. No mas recoil.
