My buddy bought a crummy little house right on the Allegheny county line a few years back; IIRC, he paid $26k for it

He called me last week and told me they just re-assessed his property...it bumped $22k in assessment to almost $70k
The guy is a hard worker, but he doesn't make much and bought a house he thought he could afford...that extra $400/year or whatever hurts him more than most middle class folks and an extra $1k/year.
Fuck Allegheny County
Speed
I live in Westmoreland county, but one of my coworkers lives in Allegheny county. His property value went up almost 50%.
He was pissed and is going to fight it. There are a lot of unhappy people in Allegheny county over the new assessments.
Its going to get ugly I think.
Yes, WV has low property taxes, but they only rang about in the middle in regards to overall tax burden. 6.5% income tax on "high" incomes of $60K. Sales tax. Tax on food. Divdend tax....
there's a slide show over on cnbc.com or bloomberg.com (can't find it now).
They rate the states on lowest overall tax burden.
Wyoming was #1 (lowest)
Alabama #2.
They looked at income, property, sales and gas taxes.
I'll try to find the link.
Here
I'll have to look for you at Perry this year if I can make it. You will be the guy with the pink leather Creedmore jacket right?

They tax damn near everything here, sometimes twice.
Philly just did a re-assessment of the property taxes as well. It's the first one since 2004. My mortgage company has already increased my property tax escrow in anticipation of higher property taxes. The hammer hasn't fallen yet, but it will soon. The city needs money.
