Feels good to be out of that shit storm and I'm never looking back!
That is all

Nothing leaves the interwebz.

Now make a throwaway so you can spy on your friends.
Or so you think you did...

Exactly. I could never delete my FB account...I use it to manage several business pages that are important to me.
I never set one up!
As an anti-social, I have no use for those social networking sites.....

Right. You'll still be listed on your former friend's accounts, sans profile pic. All you have to do to bring everything back is sign in like you always did with the same password.

This....

No you didn't.
Did it ask you:
Are you sure?
Are you really sure?
Are you really really sure?
Are you so fucking sure you would bet your left nut?
Thats what it did to me when I quit it. Every time I clicked "yes' another pop up would show up.

Deactivate vs delete:
If you
deactivate your account from your Security Settings page, your profile (timeline) disappears from the Facebook service immediately. People on Facebook will not be able to search for you. Some information, like messages you sent, may still be visible to others.
In case you want to come back to Facebook at some point, we save your profile (timeline) information (friends, photos, interests, etc.) so that the information on your profile (timeline) will be there when you come back. A lot of people deactivate their accounts for temporary reasons.
If you do not think you will use Facebook again and would like
your account deleted, keep in mind that you will not be able to reactivate your account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added. If you would like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, log in to your account and then submit your request here.

You CAN'T permanently delete it. I thought I did, too, until I started getting the E-mail notices again.
What you'll have to do is to log back in to it, add a secondary (unused) E-mail to the list, and then delete your REAL E-mail addy. Delete your account once again and forget about it.

Hmmm. Guess I was too lazy to submit a request when I tried to get rid of my account. You're saying that deleting the account works, that you've tried it and it really makes everything go away forever?

It did for me. (When I broke down and rejoined

I had to start from scratch).
I'm sure my old account is still archived on some server somewhere though.

Not possible. Unless you happen to be the top dog IT guy at Facebook headquarters, your information will NEVER be permantely deleted. Ever.
They threw me off!

Negative.
I requested facebook to permanently delete my account. It's all gone forever.
Yes tinfoilers I understand nothing leaves the interwebz

I've wanted to do what you have done but I am worried everything will remain stored. Plus FB is the only way I can easily get in touch with some people. Therefore I have gradually deleted all my personal photos (it's actually very difficult to delete photos!) and filled my profile with fake info. I hope my plan works.
I've got a page, but almost never go there. I think it is a pain in the ass without much of a useful purpose. My college age sons probably go there multiple times per day....go figure.
derekv814 you have notifications pending

So you deleted your account that allowed you to post boring updates about your life to escape the shitstorm and came to GD to post about it?
It's all there, ready and waiting, if special people want to find it.

I'm assuming life gets much better now

There's a way you can permanently delete your facebook account (without asking them to do it for you), not just deactivate it.

it is...facebook holds the rights to all archived pictures, updates, comments, basically anything u put on the site...its kinda sick actually...
I deactivated mine a while back. I didn't really see myself using it anymore. Well, the company I'm about to start working with does a lot of custom home A/V work. It's actually part of my job to know how to use different music services, e.g. Pandora radio, Slacker radio, Rhapsody, etc.
One of the services - Spotify - requires a Facebook login. I don't post, but I reactivated to use Spotify. It's not a bad service. I just make sure it doesn't send anything to my wall. I wish to remain as transparent as possible.
