So, there I was cruising down the highway minding my own business when I get the disco lights in my rear view mirror.

I pull over knowing immediately that my rights were being violated and starting to nudge into oppression territory.

Then the Highway Patrolmen asked me if there was any reason why I wasn't wearing my seatbelt.

At the same time he asked me for my DL, insurance and registration. I gave him everything except the registration.

As it turns out, it had expired just recently...like four months ago. Well, Mister Bigshot walks back to his vehicle and makes

me sit out in the damn hot sun while he does his "thing."

Sure enough, he walks up all polite and everything and then hands me a warning on the seatbelt and registration. He then

asks me to stop by the county office and get my tags re-registered.

Yeah - right. Go infringe on someone else's rights.

He was just working for the FEMA Citizen Oppression Identification Team - United States. (FEMA COITUS)

Now that they know who you are, you've been assigned to a FEMA concentration camp.

Resistance is futile.

Something unheard of happened to within the month. My 4Runner's inspection was newly out of date. A VA State Trooper pulled me over, and gave me the lecture. I told him that I didn't drive this often (due to also having a Prius), and that I'm actually going to my mechanic today for an inspection, and did have an appointment (VA law disallows inspection appointments, but it's good to check workload). He might have had a 'no shit, this guy's being honest' moment when he ran my license and saw that I did indeed have an alternate car and the story was at least believable.

He let me go... VSP has a rep of NEVER letting you go...

I was getting ready to remind him that I pay his salary.

Lucky for him, he finished up his oppression of me before I had a chance to whip that out.

But they only ticket you for a seatbelt violation after they stop you for another violation.

Right?

Next time, ask repeatedly "Am I being detained? Am I free to go?"

He will just give up and let you go, and you won't have to leave your car.

I was sitting at a stop sign, out in the country, when one of those bastards drove past, and actually had the gall to wave. Can you believe that? I'm sitting at a stop sign, which if I hadn't seen him would have run, and he waves to me.

While screaming "Stop stealing my money officer!" and banging your head on the windshield. That always helps.

That same fucker got me the other night.

I was on the way home from an out of town job with some employees and we were talking about all the cops we saw on the road. We agreed that we didn't want to get stopped by a state trooper because those fuckers don't let shit slide. They're professional and reasonable, but JBTs; if they stop you, you're getting a ticket.

An hour or so later, we were going through a known gauntlet where we often spotted three po-lice within a mile or two. We counted a city cop and a countie mountie and were wondering where the other one was hid out. Then he lit me up from behind.

It was a state trooper. I knew I was fucked. I was right. He gave me a warning for a license plate light out. Bastard JBT.
