I Prefer Old Video Games
No Fancy games for me. I prefer Galaga, Asteroids, Tempest and others. I have Atari's greatest hits on iPad.
I had no Atari as kid but enjoyed the games in the arcade,on occasion. Now as a man child I love to play pong and The Red Baron.
Atari 2600
They just aren't the same without the correct controls.
I mean come on, Defender just isn't Defender on a keyboard.
Old school rocks!

I could own tempest in the arcade. On iPad I suck. A joystick would be awesome.
Any place to play tempest online? I loved that game.
Patrick
Holy shit. Coleccovision.

I tried to find it for him. I couldn't find it.
Thanks
Oh man... The arcade games...
Remember what a great leap forward Stargate was over Defender? But Missile Command was the GOAT. I've tried playing it on the pc but it just isn't the same without that giant track-ball.
Zaxxon? I thought it was such a cool game but could never get the hang of its weird angle / attempt at 3-D.
Anyone remember a game where you were in the middle of the screen and ever increasing hordes attacked? Can't for the life of me remember the name, but we spent hours and hours playing that thing...
The old games were all about FUN in a fairly simple setting. Not like today, where it's eye candy first and gaming second.
That being said, I really think the golden age was before cinematic gaming but after the 8-bit era was over. My favorite games
of all time are the original Quake, and Abuse, and for the Playstation (original), Oddworld: Abe's Odyssee, which I play on my
PC using PSXemu.
Oh yeah...the Earthworm Jim sidescroller games (1 and 2) were also epic fun, causing me to waste many hours until I beat
them both and then played them again on higher difficulty settings.
I think the Super Nintendo was the last great gaming system. The SNES had the best selection of RPGs, and they were doing pretty good with the graphics by the time they got to Donkey Kong Country. I still play mine on a regular basis, and my kids also enjoy playing the older games. The NES and Genesis still get some use, but the SNES and N64 see the most playtime in my household.
I think the Playstation was the beginning of the end. That's when they started focusing on long cut scenes and graphics, and started sacrificing gameplay. They were so focused on cranking out as many new titles as possible that none of them really lived up to their full potential. I felt like I was watching a movie most of the time, rather than playing a game. It's only gotten worse since then...
I still play games on SEGA Genesis/Megadrive, SNES/SuperFamicom, Atari 2600, Neo-Geo, et cetera. There are new games I like, but I miss the era when they had to have it right when it went out the door, because there were no patches to download.

Maybe not as old-school as some consider, but lately I have been playing the shit out of my old Age of Empires and Sim City 3000 cd's

IMO, you've been playing the wrong games, the old games are great but some of my favorite games are xBox/xBox360 games.

Discs of Tron, Heavy Barrel, Galaga, Smash TV, Robotron, Asteroids, Black Tiger, and Skyshark were my favorite coin-op games.
As far as old console games go.. I liked Warlords, Megamania, and Star Master on 2600 and the two D&D games on intellivision.
I have a NES emulator on my phone.
I've been playing Bad News Baseball a lot lately.

Intellivision's Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, B-17 Bomber and Baseball kept me awake all night, then it was Marathon and Pathways into Darkness, Hellcats over the Pacific and A-10 Warthog later. These all paved the way for Halo, COD and BIA on 'box.
Y'all need to try Limbo and some of the other amazing Indie games that are out now. Some of the stuff sucks, but some of it is better then the old stuff.
FWIW Humble Bundle V game out this week, it's a "pay what you want" bundle of Indie games and some of the money goes to charity
www.humblebundle.com It does contain Limbo.
How could I fail to mention Lunar Lander.

Fake Cig sign and all.
The first game I really liked was Chuck Yeager's Air Combat. The first night I played all night long until it was time to go to work. I wish I still had it to play.
Most old games are hard as fuck. You can have them.
Haha Kaboom, greatest game ever

Your whole soccer team got a "Participation Trophy" when they came in dead last in leagues, didn't they?

You ever play ET on Atari or Last Action Hero on SNES?
Do that and get back to me.
I have an NES, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, and an ASUS laptop. I love all games old and new.

Straw man. Shit games are shit games, but there are plenty of good games that are difficult and challenging.
Oh, and I played both.

Space Quest and Kings Quest series rocked. Tandy PC FTMFW
I like some old school Galaxian sometimes.
Earthworn Jim, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Toejam and Earl, Shadow Run on Sega Genesis, Battle Tech on Snes...
Good times

I didn't say anything about them being good. I said they were hard. I don't know of any mainstream games today that are that difficult.
Yes there are good old games, but I don't have the patience for most of them anymore.
Earthbound ftw!

I should have said spinner. It was perfect for tempest.
I did discover that the Atari stuff on,iPad has several options for controllers.
So I found a side roller option on tempest that works well.
